Dark reader
Hello,
Does anyone have any alternatives to installing the dark reader add on ? It really slowed down my laptop due to a script running in the background. Are there any other wys of making web pages darker without installing this add on ?
thanks,
Habib.

Hello Habib,
Would you please take a look at this article :
https://www.askvg.com/tip-enable-dark-mode-everywhere-in-mozilla-firefox/
If that doesn't do what you want, then maybe you'd like to give this add-on a try :
https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/dark-background-light-text/
Or this one :
thanks I tried the 2nd option and it works...except for firefox pages (i.e this page )...Can i alter the add on to enforce dark mode on websites it doesn't convert to a black background ?
the white background is too much....

If by "the 2nd option" you mean this add-on :
https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/dark-background-light-text/
Under "About this extension" it says :
" Submit bug reports and feature requests to dark-bg-light-text-mozilla@khvoinitsky.org Or create an issue on github if you have a github account. "
When people have questions/remarks/requests concerning add-ons it is always adviced to contact the developer(s) of the add-on.
The "askvg" suggestion to enable dark theme mode support on all pages in Firefox by toggling the value of a preference on the "about:config" page won't work for you ?
i tried that set 'true' to the dark reader shortcut and this page is still blindlingly white.
I'll drop the developer a message

Assuming that you are talking about the preference, mentioned in the "askvg" article, did you scroll down to where it says :
"IMPORTANT TIP:
To enjoy this trick, you'll need to enable dark app mode in Windows 10 operating system. Check out following tutorial to learn how to enable dark app mode in Windows 10: " ?
Only with code in userContent.css you can style the background on all web pages. WebExtensions are prohibited from injecting JavaScript and CSS files on some blocklisted domains.

That's weird ....
I'm on Windows 10 and I found that option right away in Settings :
https://www.askvg.com/tip-enable-dark-or-light-theme-modes-in-windows-10/
also https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/dark-background-light-text/ does this add slow down as usage increases ? Is there a way of restting it ? the dark reader i found from extensions in firefox gradually slowed down firefox over a period of time. Is there a way to optimise the add on ?

Now, that is something you would have to ask the developer of the add-on; you could send him an email (see "Support Email" under "More information").
