It's called the "location" because it's pointing to where the bookmark goes to, not where it's located in your bookmark manager.

It's listed so that you could change the location if you want to and have the bookmark point to another place. It's also handy if you have multiple bookmarks with the same title, so that you can see what website it points to.

Also, having the ability to see what folder a bookmark is located in likely wouldn't be a huge help, since you need to actually find the bookmark in order to be able to see any information about it.

@Wesley Branton is right. And "Location" is not limited to websites. For example, you can Bookmark an image of the Eiffel Tower on your computer with: file:///C:/Users/YOURNAME/Pictures/Eiffel_Tower.jpg

If a bookmark-search won't show me where the bookmark is LOCated, literally and LOCally, then the search result is not a "LOCation." Cities named on a highway sign are not that sign's "LOCation."

Finding bookmarks that I seek, i.e., their *LOCal* *LOCations,* would, in fact, be a "huge help" to me. These LOCations are necessary for me to reorganize my bookmarks folders.

It's a longstanding problem that there isn't a "containing folder" column in the Library window, or a right-click > Go to Folder command. It's on the wish list.

People have created bookmark search add-ons to work around it. I don't use any of them myself.

P.S. No point debating the proper meaning of the word location, it's built in to web standards under that name.

"Parent Folder" is term to search for when looking for a Firefox Add-on that has the "location" in your bookmarks. There have been a number of Firefox extensions over the years that would show the user the "parent folder" of a specific bookmark.

The only builtin way to get the parent folder in to open the bookmark in a tab (possibly in Offline mode) and click the highlighted star in the location bar. Expand the full folder tree via the second down pointing arrow and check what folder in selected using the scroll bar.

As an everyday user of Firefox since ever and managing/organizing in Firefox my thousands of bookmarks in hundreds of (hierarchical) folders, I just would express how deeply I'm disappointed and annoyed by the lack of this feature in built-in way, spoiling my time repeatedly to find alternatives of the plugins addressing that need but becoming obsolete after updates of Firefox. For me it is a matter of coherence (not a priority in wishlist) : In any "respectable" software application managing folders of items you should have a search feature that allows you to identify which item is store where ! Otherwise it is useless to have folders.

For now I will live with "Bookmark search plus 2" and seriously consider changing browser when it gets incompatible with future version of Firefox.

I agree with the question. chrome has a menu option of "show item in folder" - that brings up where in your bookmarks the item is stored. firefox should have this feature too

by the way, by "show item in folder" chrome isn't referring to which directory on the c: drive the bookmark is stored, it displays which of your bookmark folders contains the item.

In the "Edit this bookmark" dialog that opens if you click the highlight star you can see in the Folder line in which folder the bookmark is located. There is a second (possibly faint) second arrow outside the Folder field that shows the full folder tree with the folder where the bookmark is stored selected.

One cannot "organize = change/move the location of a bookmark in a particular folder to a location in a different folder" with the "Edit this bookmark" dialog that opens if you click the highlight star you can see in the Folder line in which folder the bookmark is located (the response above).

The purpose of this enhancement is to make the task of organizing bookmarks easier. Adding the "Folder" information to the "Library" panel should not be difficult as a pointer to the information already exists in the code.
