Adobe Reader will no longer download PDF files using Adobe in Firefox on my XP (application has generated exception error message)
Adobe in Firefox application has worked for me for years, until a day or two ago. I can download the PDF file, but when opening I only see the image a second or two, then get a "Application has generated an exemption that could not be handled " message. Cannot print once error message drops in. Do i need to uncheck the use Adobe in Firefox option and use Adobe directly? I know my XP is very dated, but Windows 7 and on will not accommodate a program I use daily.

Once again, thank you for your continuing help. I apparently had a senior moment, downloaded11.0.23 via the link you provided, but forgot to install. So, I went back and installed 11.0.23. Unfortunately, I could not open .23. After some research, I found that my dinosaur XP program was only compatible through 11.0.08. So, I deleted whatever I had for Reader, installed a clean 11.0.08, and all now works again. No idea why the glitch showed up a few days ago, but all is well once again. Again, thanks for your help!

This is the Firefox support forum, so we can't really help with adobe problems, and XP is so old that we can't really help with problems on that system either.
I'd strongly suggest either updating to Windows 10, or installing linux to use modern software that is safe on the internet. XP is not
In the meantime, your plugin list indicates a very old version of the Acrobat plugin. Make sure you have at least the latest in the Adobe Reader XI series to close off as many security vulnerabilities as possible.
Even though Adobe has ended support for Acrobat/Reader XI, there still are two options for getting the update:
(A) In Adobe Reader, go to Help > Check for Updates
(B) Install from the following page:

Thank you for your response. I do have the latest XI Acrobat Reader installed. As an experiment, I just changed my options within Firefox to use Adobe default directly rather than the Adobe within Firefox option, but the issue remained. What is strange and frustrating for this 85 year old is that I have used this application within Firefox for years w/o a problem. It only surfaced a few days when trying to print an Amazon birthday gift card in PDF. Since then, all PDFs I receive get the "Application has generated an exemption" error message, together with a long "Process ID =" address. It appears I need to buy a PDF file converter from which I can print. I have one installed, can read the text, but cannot print or email without paying. Thanks again for your help.

-- which is not the latest update, so it's worth double-checking again using the mechanisms I mentioned, and NOT the regular download page.

Try using Internet Explorer 11 for the card. It uses the Adobe ActiveX control, which may work differently than the plugin used in Firefox.
If the Adobe Reader itself is crashing, I don't think we can help you with that. You don't need a PDF converter, but there are other PDF readers for Windows. I don't know which ones still run on XP, but for example:

Was not sure which to use, but downloaded the first two for Windows (342MB and 46MB), then reset my Firefox applications to use Adobe within Firefox and tried again. Still the same problem. Hopefully, I downloaded the updates you had intended. Thanks again.
The difference between the first two downloads is one is for Acrobat, the paid product, and one is for Reader, the free product. After you run the updater, when you check inside Adobe Reader, Help > About Adobe Reader should show the version to be 11.0.23 instead of 11.0.8.
That may or may not allow you to open the downloaded PDF, but if the latest supported release for XP doesn't work, you'll need to contact Adobe about that problem.

It's still worth trying the internal update from inside Adobe Reader:
Help > Check for Updates
There are security vulnerabilities in older versions of Adobe Reader XI.
