Using up to date FF 67 and uBlock. Nothing fancy. Why does FF keep losing a few Top Sites? I have it set to delete cookies and site data upon close but FF keeps most of my Top Sites. Don't understand this at all.

Also, how do I get rid of this new 'ribbon' under my navigate and home icons? Suddenly there is a 'get started' and another object for a bookmark I just saved?

Thank you,

Mac

I believe my solution was to not refresh an appl I use called Sandboxie. I've been bothering mods for far too long with this before I made the connection.

Hi Mac, to manage different sections of the Firefox Home/New Tab page, you can use the "Home" panel of the Options page. More info here: Customize your New Tab page to hide or display content. If you're not sure what something is, try changing the setting and reloading the page (Ctrl+r) to see what it does.

Now, regarding Top Sites: is the problem with the ones that Firefox adds automatically based on your browsing, or with ones you have added yourself or pinned?

For sites that show up based on history, take control by pinning them to the page, otherwise, as they age or become less often visited, Firefox will remove them. To pin a site, hover your mouse over the tile and an ••• button should appear.

If pinned sites disappear, it can indicate a problem with the settings file prefs.js where that data is stored. In that case, try this article: How to fix preferences that won't save.

Any luck?

Apologies for being so tardy. I tried the Refresh button, imported my bookmarks and will monitor FF's behavior. Also updated to 67.0.3.

I'm thinking the json or prefs.js must be the problem if this doesn't solve. Also have been having a weird issue w/homepage (google) and Bing loading very slowly or not at all vs. all other pages. So far, after the Refresh my google.advanced homepage and Bing load faster but Outlook logon is extremely slow. That must be some MS issue.

If the problem persists I'll try the 2nd solution from your last link or as a last resort try creating a FF account to Sync.

Thank you!

Well I thought my homepage (google) was acting faster but nope, refuses to load. Edge loads it right away. So since I Refreshed, I think the problem(s) must be elsewhere.

I'll post what happens, as others may have this problem.

Are the top sites you lose sites you pinned to a tab or are they added from the browsing history?

  • browser.newtabpage.pinned stores websites you have pinned to a tile
  • browser.newtabpage.blocked stores websites you have removed by clicking the X button in a tile

Pinned. Let me t-shoot this ... maybe I can figure out the database tips.

Thanks!
