Please explain the problem in detail. What happens? What are the exact error message(s) ?

I'm not getting error messages. Its just that since joining Firefox I could view my bookmarks by merely clicking the bookmarks button. Now when I click the bookmarks button I get the recent highlights menu. I click on bookmarks in that menu and I get the recently bookmarked menu. I click on show all bookmarks in that menu to get the library menu which opens in a new window. Then I have to click on bookmarks menu to get to the same place I used to get to in one click. OK i exaggerated that's only four clicks.

Look at my picture.

Customize Firefox controls, buttons and toolbars

Type about:customizing<enter> in the address bar.

Note: about:customizing is no longer present in Firefox 47+ releases.

  • Press Alt or F10 to bring up the toolbar.
Then View > Toolbars > Customize.
  • Right-click on a blank spot in the toolbar and
    select Customize.

In the new window, look for the icon. When you find it, hold down the left button on it, and move it to where you want it to be. You can move any of the icons you want from here, but; some icons are locked in place.

There is also a Restore Defaults button at the bottom middle.

In addition to the Customize method, there is another option to get the button on the toolbar. It's in the article Bookmarks in Firefox - section entitled: How do I add the Bookmarks Menu button to the toolbar? In short:

  • Click the "Library" button: (or click the "3-bar" menu button and then click Library)
  • Click "Bookmarks"
  • Click "Bookmarking Tools"
  • Click "Add Bookmarks Menu to Toolbar"

Hello rrmods,

Would simply pressing Ctrl + Shift + B work for you  ? Is faster than four clicks ......

...... and jscher2000 just explained it to me in a PM : that's not the "bookmarks icon", but the "Library icon" - my bad  !

Edit : But I still wonder : where does the OP say that the icon isn't on the toolbar ?

OK I got it handled. Had to go through customize menu and add bookmarks icon on the toolbar. What I don't understand is Ive been clicking on the same icon forever. Now the bookmarks menu icon is different. Don't really need an answer to that one. Any way thank you to everyone who helped!

Mozilla changed the icons and how they work several versions ago.
