Can't delete Wikibuy. It does not show up in add ons but it's on my toolbar.

When I right click on it there is no option to remove it. When I go to add ons, it does not shop up in there so there is no way to remove it.

Hi vickieinunion, is it showing up on the main toolbar (has address bar and various icon buttons) or on your bookmarks toolbar (with icon+text buttons linking to sites) or somewhere else?

It might be helpful if you could share a screenshot of the problem. This article has suggestions on how to capture that: How do I create a screenshot of my problem? Please cut out or blur any sensitive information in the image before attaching the file to a reply.

Hi vickieinunion, thank you for the screenshot. It definitely looks like an extension button.

Their instructions page says their extension is called Wikibuy, so unless their icon was hijacked by someone else, you should be able to find and remove it.

You can view, disable, and often remove unwanted or unknown extensions on the Add-ons page. Either:

  • Ctrl+Shift+a (Mac: Command+Shift+a)
  • "3-bar" menu button (or Tools menu) > Add-ons
  • type or paste about:addons in the address bar and press Enter/Return

In the left column of the Add-ons page, click Extensions.

Then cast a critical eye over the list on the right side. Any extensions Firefox installs for built-in features are hidden from this page, so everything listed here is your choice (and your responsibility) to manage.

Usually Firefox lists the enabled extensions in alphabetical order first, then the disabled ones. Usually if there's a toolbar button, it will be among the enabled ones.

If Wikibuy isn't obvious, is there anything suspicious or that you just do not remember installing or why? If in doubt, disable (or remove).

Any improvement?

Thanks, I did the research and tried all of this before reaching out. I have attached an image of what I get when i go to add ons. As you can see, Wikibuy is not there.

Do you see the extension on the "Help -> Troubleshooting Information" (about:support) page?

Some suggestions to try:

Try Restore Defaults in the Customize palette.

Try to rename/remove compatibility.ini in the Firefox profile folder with Firefox closed to invalidate caches.

You can use the button on the "Help -> Troubleshooting Information" (about:support) page to go to the current Firefox profile folder or use the about:profiles page.

Please see attached screen shot. There are 2 new files in the root directory file that are dated May 15 and 17. Will I be hurting anything if I delete them to see if this solves the problem?

Most likely it's this 5.644KB xpi file. You can remove it with closed Firefox. But keep the file somewhere around.

Okay, closed Firefox and moved the file to another file on my desk top. I opened Firefox and I was happy to see the W for Wikibuys was gone. Unfortunately, when I tried to go anywhere on the internet nothing would happen. I went back in and put the file back. I opened Firefox again and good news, I am able to use the internet and the Wikibuy is gone. I hope it stays that way,

Thank you
