how to delete spyware "Goldraiven"

Kuphostiwe

For the past few years, every time I try to download Firefox from www.mozilla.org, when I open up the app on my macbook pro, the search bar shows: http://search.goldraiven.com/?t=1610&ap=1466579416158842&r=e43ec64e040444d41cfb0c73340657d0&hp=1

A quick search on Google shows goldraiven to be spyware. Yet the Mozilla website does not mention it anywhere on their website, nor search terms.

WHY IS FIREFOX, A SUPPOSED PRIVACY APP, DOWNLOADING SPYWARE EMBEDDED IN THE APP? I will not be using it until I get an answer. I don't remember downloading Goldraiven back when I first started using firefox many years ago.

Hello myfavoritehome,

First of all : Firefox did not download this malware on your system, so please, don't blame the browser .....

Would you please do this :

Go to the Preferences => Add-ons => Extensions and remove anything that looks unfamiliar or suspicious.

Next step : run malwarescans - further information can be found in this article :

https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/troubleshoot-firefox-issues-caused-malware?cache=no

Run most or all of the listed malware scanners. They all work differently - what one program doesn't pick up, the other might.

Especially for Mac : https://www.malwarebytes.com/mac/

Any installers from Mozilla.org only contain the program in question and its support files. Nothing else.

It’s very sad, but many software downloaders/ installers will trick you into installing not only their program, but other programs as well.

You have heard of the fine print in shady contracts, right? Well, some installers you need to look at the itsy bitsy teeny weeny fine print.

You are thinking you are giving the installer permission to install the program you want by using the recommended option. But if you use the Manual Option Instead, you discover all kinds of stuff that you do not even know what it is or what it does.

From now on, everyone needs to Use The Manual Option to put a stop to this.

Note that these programs can also change browser/computer settings.
