Can't copy and paste into browser.

I try to copy and paste things into smartapartmentdata.com and I can't copy and paste anything on the website from another website or browser. I can copy and paste on chrome which I sadly might have to switch back to if I can't get it fixed.

Unfortunately that is a site that requires a login so it's not possible to help with the issue your having.

So should I uninstall the browser and reinstall it? I did the same thing in chrome and it worked the first time. I even restarted it under safe mode and that didn't help.

I tried it in the Contact page of the site and it worked. Doesn't work for you with that form?

Hi jerry.citywide, for most issues, uninstall/reinstall doesn't make any difference because Firefox saves your data in between. So if it's caused by a setting, something in the cache, or an add-on, the problem carries over.

Which methods don't work for you? For example:

  • right-click > Paste
  • Ctrl+v
  • (in a rich text editor with formatting) Ctrl+Shift+v to paste unformatted

Sometimes text editors on websites include their own Paste button, and for privacy reasons, Firefox may refuse to work with scripted paste buttons because it would allow the page to read what's on your clipboard any time it likes.


If a site is generally known to work in Firefox, these are standard suggestions to try when it stops working normally:

Double-check content blockers: Firefox's Content Blocking feature and extensions that counter ads and tracking may break websites that embed third party content (meaning, from a secondary server).

(A) Do you see a shield icon toward the left end of the address bar, near the lock icon? More info on managing the Tracking Protection feature in this article: What happened to Tracking Protection?.

(B) Extensions such as Adblock Plus, Blur, Disconnect, Ghostery, NoScript, Privacy Badger, uBlock Origin or uMatrix should provide toolbar buttons to manage blocked content in a page. There may or may not be a number on the icon indicating the number of blocked items; you may need to click the button to see what's going on and test whether you need to make an exception for this site.

Cache and Cookies: When you have a problem with one particular site, a good "first thing to try" is clearing your Firefox cache and deleting your saved cookies for the site.

(1) Clear Firefox's Cache

If you have a large hard drive, this might take a few minutes.

(2) Remove the site's cookies (save any pending work first). While viewing a page on the site, try either:

  • right-click (on Mac Ctrl+click) a blank area of the page and choose View Page Info > Security > "Clear Cookies and Site Data"
  • (menu bar) Tools > Page Info > Security > "Clear Cookies and Site Data"
  • click the padlock or "i" icon in the address bar, then the ">" button, then More Information, and finally the "Clear Cookies and Site Data" button

In the dialog that opens, you will see one or more matches to the current address so you can remove the site's cookies individually without affecting other sites.

Then try reloading the page. Does that help?

Testing in Firefox's Safe Mode: In its Safe Mode, Firefox temporarily deactivates extensions, hardware acceleration, and some other advanced features to help you assess whether these are causing the problem.

If Firefox is not running: Hold down the Shift key when starting Firefox. (On Mac, hold down the option/alt key instead of the Shift key.)

If Firefox is running: You can restart Firefox in Safe Mode using either:

  • "3-bar" menu button > "?" Help > Restart with Add-ons Disabled
  • (menu bar) Help menu > Restart with Add-ons Disabled

and OK the restart.

Both scenarios: A small dialog should appear. Click "Start in Safe Mode" (not Refresh).

I have a similar problem - I'm using FF 69.0 and Windows 10 Enterprise on a computer at work. I've used FF for over a decade in the same environment (and predecessors, of course).

Copy and Paste have always worked fine. Copy and Paste work still works on other Apps, and (So far as I can tell) on other web sites.

Trying to copy data from a website - as I've done for years without issue - even yesterday it worked fine. URL: http://stats.ncaa.org/rankings?sport_code=MFB&division=11

Today, it will Copy ONCE. But every subsequent attempt does NOT load data into the clipboard. IF I restart the computer And restart FF, it works ONCE, then not again.

Reloading the page has no effect.

Right-click and Crtl-C both do not function.

Any suggestions? Kinda tough to do a complete reboot every time I want to Copy and Paste???

Hi tom50, when Firefox loses its ability to copy from the NCAA site, does it lose its ability to copy from any/all sites?

For the NCAA page, any difference if you turn off styles? You can do that using:

View > Page Styles > No Style

On Windows, tap the Alt key to activate the menu bar if you haven't switched it to persistent display.
