I cannot stop these files - they appear nowhere. I have muted my speakers for the time being. I am also getting images instead of tabs. I am sure that Firefox would have advised me of an upgrade that went from text to images. This is why I believe firefox has been hijacked. Contact me on my email address, as I am shutting down firefox when I finish this message.

Run most or all of the listed malware scanners. Each works differently. If one program misses something, another may pick it up.

Thank you all. Firefox is working again. I did as suggested, plus the hints and Firefox is behaving. It must have been malware or spyware or something similar. I am running the register scanner.

Thanks again to all who helped! Cheers, Gill
