Is the current version of FF 64 able to save its complete configuration so that if it is reset through "refresh firefox" that it can be restored to the users prefered configuration?

Back up and restore information in Firefox profiles.{web link} I use an add-on that makes backups of my user profile, Just In Case. Unfortunately, it is not compatible with the current Firefox.

Every now and then, open the profile folder and create a copy of the current profile as is to another location on your hard drive. This way you will have a backup.

If you do this each day, you will not lose much data. This should be done with Firefox Closed.

Note: In case you need to restore from these backups, you may need to overwrite old or corrupted files.

fredMcD that is good to know but this is a function Mozilla itself should provide not a third party.

I will make a recommendation in feedback.

That would "kill" the main reason for doing a refresh of Firefox, to get a clean start.

All the important user data, like bookmarks, logins, and such, are transferred to the "new Profile", so what else do you want that isn't transferred?

You do not need to use an add-on to back up a folder on your system. Your regular disk backup software can do it, or you can do it by hand following the steps in the article.

The backup I am speaking of is specific to restoring Firefox to its original state.

How many parameters are there in about:config ? Not to mention other preference features. I would like to set it to my original configuration or use multiple configuration for test purposes.

more options

The about:config screen lists numerous preferences. Firefox only saves the ones that have a modified (non-default) value. Most of those can be found in the prefs.js file in your profile folder. See: Profiles - Where Firefox stores your bookmarks, passwords and other user data.

Let's just say there are thousands of possible changes that can be made.

See this support article about Firefox Profiles: https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/profiles-where-firefox-stores-user-data

Sounds like you would benefit from having more than one Profile. https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/profile-manager-create-and-remove-firefox-profiles

As far as settings you make in about:config - almost all those preferences can be changed in a user.js file so that you don't need make all the changes every time you create a new Profile for testing purposes. http://kb.mozillazine.org/User.js_file Once you create a new Profile, simply place your user.js file and when you open Firefox all the changes will appear in the prefs.js file automatically.

A profile stores all the settings but is not that easy to work with if you want to insert just the configuration items. Also if a user was to perform a "refresh firefox" option and want to restore all settings back to original a configuration save would be a great feature.
