Prevent webpages from interpreting horizontal scroll events

I need to be able to prevent websites from being able to interpret horizontal scroll events from my touch pad because otherwise, if I do not swipe my fingers in a perfectly vertical line, some websites will navigate between different parts of the website or perform other unwanted behaviors that make using the browser very difficult.

I would disable horizontal scrolling on my touch pad but that does not seem to be possible.

Is there a way that I can prevent this behavior in Firefox?
