My downloads keep failing in Firefox

For the recent 6 months or so, I didn't know what was wrong with my downloads until I came up with the idea of downloading in another browser, which solved the problem (I just downloaded a 10GB file), that was never possible in Firefox, even the 250MB's fail! (I have low download speed).

Prior to that I thought there was a problem in the cables, router (which I replaced) , settings, security software, extensions, I tried disabling/removing them with no luck. But now at least I know the problem is within Firefox itself, so please help me identify what's wrong exactly and how can I solve it! thanks!

Oh, I forget to say that the frequent fails started to happen after the Quantum update AND to a larger extent after I installed Simple mass downloader extension. (I tried disabling/removing it, but there was always a problem after that point!). https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/simple-mass-downloader/ Maybe also because I have a lot of bookmarks (about 10000). Maybe that contributes to it(?). I don't know!

If you suspect Simple mass downloader, remove it as a test.

Okay, although I had already done this step before, it helped a little, but the downloads would often fail after say ~2/3/4 GB. I'll try it again now, and test with a medium-sized file (3 GB) and report back when the download finishes/fails.

I downloaded the 3GB successfully, and wanted to test a bigger file (6GB), only for the download speed to drop to about 10% of my maximum speed! probably that's another problem (it happens to me sometimes), cancelled the download, restarted it at night, and it failed midway through, but something weird happened, Firefox didn't say "failed" but instead just settled for about 3GB. and that's a ANOTHER problem which started to happen after a certain Firefox update around 3 or 4 months ago.

Anyway I'll wait again until I see the connection is stable and test and report back.

This is what I use; This download manager works separately from the browser. The browser tells it what to download, and off it goes.

http://www.freedownloadmanager.org It is a powerful modern download accelerator and organizer for Windows and Mac.

Yeah, that would be my next step/last resort, a download manager, I was thinking about JDownloader, but I'll take your suggestion into consideration.
