After updating firefox to the latest version on mac, I'm unable to access my preferences
Everything else seems to be fine but when I click on preferences, it does nothing. I've restarted my mac several times, updated my mac to the latest software and deleted and reinstalled firefox several times as well. Is there anything that can do or install for me to access my preferences?

Note: Windows users should download the ActiveX for Internet Explorer. and the plugin for Plugin-based browsers (like Firefox).
Note: Windows 8 and Windows 10 have built-in flash players and Adobe will cause a conflict. Install the plugin only. Not the ActiveX.

A small dialog should appear. Click Start In Safe Mode (not Refresh). Is the problem still there?

Hi. Thank you for your help. I've tried everything you suggested but the problem still persists! :-( It's rather odd that I'm unable to access my preference settings, as I've updated firefox in the past and never had this problem. I just don't know what to do now.
Please explain the problem in detail. What happens? What is the exact error messages?
Type about:preferences<enter> in the address bar
Press Alt or F10 to bring up the toolbar. Then Tools > Options

Hi. I was able to access my preferences by typing about:preferences in the address bar, but I still can't access it by the preferences button. I now have access to my account (which I was unable to do) and I'm trying to sync by downloads, history, bookmarks etc. but it isn't syncing. The only thing that synced was my logins. The last sync backup was on the 13th but when I try to restore it, an error message pops up showing it was unable to restore it. :-( Is there anything else I have to do please?
you appear to be using Firefox 57. Please update to Firefox 64

When I updated to firefox 64, it didn't fix the ongoing issues, it just made the issues even worse! So I went back to the previous version i was on. When I was using firefox 36 (before I updated to 57 and 64) I had no problems and I wish I never updated! The only reason was because a few websites I use required the annoying captcha and firefox 36 no longer supported that. Is there anything else I have to do to fix this ongoing issue?

Which button are you talking about?

We need to look at the sync logs. Type about:sync-log<enter> in the address bar.
