Since installing 63.0.3, constant problems with running Firefox

I've had no problem with previous versions of Firefox. Since installing version 63.0.3, constant problems with crashing, hanging or loading homepage and websites extremely slowly. Sometimes loading of homepage cycles through two or three partial sequences before completing. Have tried all obvious recommended solutions without success, including safe mode, refresh and reinstall. Am using MacBook Pro 10.10.5 and BT as my home page. I use Safari as my other browser and it continues to run without any issues

Start your Computer in safe mode with network support. Then start Firefox. Try Secure websites. Is the problem still there?

In the address bar, type about:crashes<enter>. Note: If any reports do not have BP- in front of the numbers/letters, click it to submit them.

The crash report is several pages of data. We need the report numbers to see the whole report.

Using your mouse, mark the most recent 7 - 10 crash reports, and copy them. Now go to the reply box and paste them in.

Firefox has tended to hang rather than crash, only able to close programme by forcing close.

Regarding Shockwave, uninstaller removes my most recent secure version (32), but when I use it to then remove (disabled) insecure version 30, uninstaller tells me Shockwave not present.

Still to try safe mode suggestion. Once computer is in safe mode, how do you return it to "normal" operation?

All you have to do is a reboot.

The reports you posted were not sent to the Mozilla servers.

We have seen crashes reported on Mac caused by a fbplugin (Facebook photo uploader) in the "Internet Plug-Ins" folder, so you can check that.

Thanks for all suggestions so far - no joy though. Since I've had no previous problems with Firefox and have made no other changes to computer, I assume issue actually lies with version 63.0.3. I've considered reinstalling my previous version of Firefox, but read that this might create further problems. My view at the moment is to stop using Firefox in the hope that its next update resolves the problems that have arisen. In the meantime I'll use another browser - except for checking this forum!

By chance, I seem to have discovered a partial solution. Until now I have been using home.bt as my home page. However, if I use Firefox as my homepage and select home.bt from top sites, at the moment everything seems to work okay. Why would this be?

more options

Server not found Firefox can’t find the server at www.home.bt.

Did you mean https://home.bt.com/ Fibre Broadband, TV Packages, BT Sport & Mobile Deals | BT

or something else?

more options

Sorry, I was too vague. Yes, https://home.bt.com/ . I've tried using this arrangement this morning. Better than https://home.bt.com/ as homepage, but still getting slow loading of pages and hangs.

Thanks. Tried using contents of first 1st link, as it seemed the most relevant. With Firefox open went to Help then Troubleshooting. Couldn't see an Applications Basic section here. Only options seem to be Give Firefox a Tuneup and Try Safe Mode (both of which I have tried). Rest of page is tabular information on Firefox. With Firefox closed, tried going to Finder. No Library option displayed in Go drop down menu. Under Go, eventually located a/the? Library folder within the Macintosh HD option. Library folder contained an Application Support folder, but I could not find a Firefox folder in it.

Still no joy with hanging / slow loading problems using Firefox, although Firefox itself loads okay. Moreover, sometimes when I relaunch Firefox after a force closed, its icon "bounces" in the toolbar and does not respond to force close. Only option is computer shut down and restart.

Having finally read properly the Go + alt instruction, I eventually got to Library / Application Support / Firefox / Profiles (containing one folder). Though I don't understand the instruction in the link https://support.mozilla.org/kb/Firefox+is+already+running+but+is+not+responding to "Go one folder up", I don't see any folder named default. However all the folders I checked seem to have read and write permissions.

I'm afraid I really seem to be getting nowhere despite all the support received. Is there any other obvious explanation for the problems I'm having?

I don't understand the instruction in the link . . . .
to "Go one folder up"

That means to go to the parent folder of the folder you are in currently. Example:

c:/Parent 1/Parent 2/Current

C:/ is the root directory. Parent 1 is a subfolder off of the root directory. Parent 2 is a subfolder off of Parent 1

Does this terminology apply to the MacBook i am using rather than a PC? Certainly all the levels of folders I checked back from profiles-firefox-application support showed read and write permissions

In most cases, yes. Sometimes the words used are different, but it's basically the same in most cases.

folder/sub-folder / directory/sub-directory

I see Firefox has just upgraded to v64 - maybe this will help!

The last time I tried a Firefox refresh, the following "IBM Security Report added to Firefox" message appeared: "Another programme on you computer installed an add-on that may affect your browser. Please review this add-on's permissions requests and choose enable or cancel (to have it disabled)" Options on the message are to cancel or enable.

I presume this programme would be our other browser, Safari. In Preferences/Extensions it shows no extensions. There are however a number of plug-ins listed, though I'm not aware of any recent additions. Is there anything worth pursuing here, do you think?

IBM Security Rapport up to date and I have run Firefox with it disabled for the last two days. Still getting the occasional hang or slow loading, but definitely better than previously. Thanks for all your support in trying to resolve this problem.
