When walking through the FF troubleshooting page on missing bookmarks I got to the Library and Restore / Backup Bookmarks and then got the error Unable to Process the Backup File.

Earlier I had tried the Profile change as suggested to "place.sqlite.old and that didn't work.

I did find these files (see screenshot) but I don't know how to use them. Thanks for any help. (I knew I shouldn't have updated!!)

Hi davidjfay:

You should be able to restore your bookmarks from the 11-01 backup or the 10-30 backup as per:

[A] https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/restore-bookmarks-from-backup-or-move-them#w_restoring-from-backups

See Note 1 at the end which is a copy and paste of the instructions from [A]

Cheers !

...Roland

Note 1

Caution: Restoring bookmarks from a backup will overwrite your current set of bookmarks with the ones in the backup file.

Click the Library icon , then click Bookmarks. Scroll to the bottom and click Show all Bookmarks.
.
In the Library window, click the Import and Backup button and then select Restore..
.
Select the backup from which you want to restore, in your case either the 11-01 or 10-30 backup:.
.
The dated entries are automatic backups..
Choose File... lets you restore from a manual backup.
.
After choosing a backup, your bookmarks from that file will be restored. Close the Library window.

The name of an automatically created JSON bookmarks backup in the bookmarkbackups folder includes a total item count (folders and separators included) and an hash value to prevent saving the same backup more than once. You also see this count in the Restore menu drop-down list.

  • bookmarks-YYYY-MM-DD_<item count>_<hash>.jsonlz4.
