If I have Avira activated Thunderbird is getting slow in opening, getting or deleting emails. With Avira disabled no problem. Any advice would be much appreciated.

Add the TB profile folder as an exception:

The profile folder location can be found from Help/Troubleshooting Information, and clicking Open Folder or about:profiles.
