Please if do not know go to Device Manager and look up make and model of your Video Card Drivers.

Then go get a full installer for your card.

Uninstall your Video Drivers and Reinstall .

Can you start the media player manually by clicking the play button (you may have to click more than once)?

I will uninstall and reinstall the video card drivers later today, thanks. I appreciate the help.

ok, at this point what is the site? Your saying problem but no one can verify what problem it is now?

Openmhz.com is the site, it lists several online scanners. It works flawlessly on Chrome, but is a no-go on Firefox.

NS_ERROR_DOM_MEDIA_FATAL_ERR (0x806e0005) This was a Video error so now know idea what to do with your issue other than try : uninstall Firefox. Then Delete the Mozilla Firefox Folders in C:\Program Files , C:\Program Files(x86) & C:\ProgramData Then restart system. Then run Windows Disk Cleanup. (Note: This should be Pinned and run Weekly, If never done below expect 10's of gig's) Then run it again and click the button that says Cleanup System Files. Note: your Firefox Profile is saved. But you should make a back up before you do :

Usually Firefox tries to provide some details on why the decoding failed. Could you check the Web Console and/or Browser Console to see whether that appears there? You might need to reload the page to retrigger the error.

Web Console

You can open the Web Console in the lower part of the tab where you have the page open using either:

• "3-bar" menu button > Web Developer > Web Console
• (menu bar) Tools > Web Developer > Web Console
• (Windows) Ctrl+Shift+k

Then reload the page in the upper part of the tab and watch for error or security messages. (The lines with blue triangles generally are not significant unless you suspect a style rule problem.) Anything that sounds like it could be relevant?

Browser Console

You can open the separate Browser Console window using either:

• "3-bar" menu button > Web Developer > Browser Console
• (menu bar) Tools > Web Developer > Browser Console

Click the trash can icon at the upper left to clear the window, then switch back over to your main window and reload the page or try a play button.

Then switch back over to the console window. Did Firefox log any errors related to those actions?

I can play the above link in the VLC media player I have on my system. I can't figure how to make FF recognize the 'm4a' audio extension pointing to the VLC media player.

Interesting that pasting the link in the URL box presents the FF play bar.

Setting that pref to true might give extra information in the Web/Browser Console about what goes wrong. It won't help to fix the problem, but could identify where it goes wrong.

The m4a link you posted above plays for me in a Firefox tab as an mp4 file.

Ug. I'm in Safe Mode at the moment and still can't get the M4A file to play. I'm perplexed.

Firefox has a problem with playing this MP4 file if you still get this media error showing in the Web Console. This could be a problem with the codec that is used or some other problem. That would need to be fixed in the OS because Firefox relies on OS spuport for playing MP4 media in the HTML5 media player and thus it is unlikely that you can fix this in Firefox.

If you can play the file in VLC then you can check what codec is used for audio and for video.

Hmm. My 'Windows Update' are up-to-date, so wouldn't that be up-to-date with Codecs? Or, is that only updated in Windows 8 and beyond? Could I DL and install the 'latest Codecs' for Windows 7?

Meanwhile, I'll try looking around in the VLC Media Player and see what I can find.

(BTW, FF loaded FAST in 'Safe Mode'. Like 2-minutes vs my usual 12 minutes!)

Update: According to this site https://fileinfo.com/extension/m4a I should have been able to play M4A files in WMP 12.

Attached is an image of the Codec in the VLC Media Player. When I rename the file extension to MP4, VLC still plays it ok. FF needs to recognize that MP4 = M4A?

Thanks for the replies ,everyone. Sorry for the delay in getting back to you all.Looks like it's not just my installation that's goofy.

It doesn't look like there's a common "fix" for this issue, but I'll try changing things like you all have, and will see what happens.

I appreciate the help, and hope we can find a good fix.

FYI Windows and Codecs aren't one the same. Look at your uninstall Control panel to see what codecs are or aren't installed. Also remove all FF and Mozilla folder and reinstall in case you got foreign programs in there that shouldn't be there causing the glitch as well. And then do a clean FF install and see if the site problem persists.

I don't know what the parameters for the Windows Media Foundation are, but iTunes indicates this file has a very low bit rate compared to other M4A/AAC files that Firefox/Windows and WMP 12 can play (for example, 128 Kbps). I wonder whether that is a factor. (Screenshot attached)

I just checked and don't see anything to me that looks/speaks of 'Codecs', but I obviously have something from Win-7 installed, as Windows Media Center and Windows Media Player do play a number of different video and audio types. I don't know when M4A came along, but I do have an old system here, from Nov 2010.

Windows Help talks about caution installing Codecs from distrusted sources, but surely there must be something out there other than upgrading to a later OS?
