Westend : OP has put the error message in quotation marks.

Hi, judyrlbb I would guess in General then. https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/secure-connection-failed-error-message

Please give this a try : uninstall Firefox. Then Delete the Mozilla Firefox Folders in C:\Program Files , C:\Program Files(x86) & C:\ProgramData Then restart system. Then run Windows Disk Cleanup. (Note: This should be Pinned and run Weekly, If never done below expect 10's of gig's) Then run it again and click the button that says Cleanup System Files. Note: your Firefox Profile is saved. But you should make a back up before you do :

Reinstall with Current Release Firefox 61.0.1 with a Full Version Installer

Please let us know if this solved your issue or if need further assistance.

Please check the time and date on your computer.

What security software are you using?

more options

There is security software like Avast/AVG, Kaspersky, BitDefender and ESET that intercept secure connections and send their own certificate. Mcafee at times. Sometimes it is a scanner that needs to be turned off. If have any of the above can also check with their community forum.

Thanks for the help. I guess this will remain a mystery. I was able to access my Yahoo mail thru Edge so I'm giving up on solving this problem for now.

Another user said this :

"Most of the solutions blame the problem on security programs and suggest turning off components of web scanning. The problem is actually with a Windows 10 update. I spent several hours tinkering with Avast, finally uninstalling it, to no avail. The only thing that worked was rolling back the update. Since then, I've installed stopupdates10, a free utility to block these unannounced and unexplained updates. "
