When I delete a message it does not appear in trash
I have a POP server account and have this problem. Somehow this must have changed from the past when I could do this. Now I do not see anywhere that I can change my settings to retain deleted e-mails in Trash until I decide to empty Trash.

Does Thunderbird work in Safemode. I believe it does but did not test it as Thunderbird generally works. It is just this one issue I raised. Also I do have a anti-virus subscription as well as malware but do not want to identify them.
I am sorry, but we will be unable to assist you. You redacted all of the useful information from the troubleshooting information and you are not prepared to identify the software you use.
I have no time for guessing. Good luck to you in your search for someone that can guess a solution for you without any relevant information.
Personally I doubt the account is even configured as POP.
What are you speaking about?????????????. The only thing I redacted was my server name. That's it. I copied exactly what you asked for from the troubleshooting.

re: eg: account1:
INCOMING: account1, , (pop3) pop-server..com:110, plain, passwordCleartext OUTGOING: , pop-server..com:25, plain, passwordCleartext, true
The same goes for pop account 4 The parts I have marked in bold are not correct. Q: Have you been editing this? It is impossible to assist if you persist in editing basic server setting information especially when you have already been asked to not do this. How else can we check your settings are not corrupted or incorrect?
Q: Do you see two separate pop mail accounts in the left Folder Pane each with it's own trash folder? OR Q: Have you set up those pop mail accounts as 'Deferred' mail accounts, also called 'Global Inbox' . So you do not see the actual mail accounts themseleves, but have all pop mail coming into 'Local Folders', so you only have one 'Trash' folder being used for both accounts?
I'm not expecting you did the following but need to clarify. Q: Have you ever set up the mail accounts as IMAP and then adjusted only the server settings to use POP?
re Does Thunderbird work in Safemode.
I believe it does but did not test it. Sorry to say this, but it is not helpful to wild guess this query.
When you are asked a question such as 'Does Thunderbird work in Safe Mode?'
Then you need to start 'Thunderbird in Safe Mode'.
select an email and click on 'Delete' and observe whether that email then goes into the 'Trash' folder.
Q: Does a deleted email go to trash folder?
Info on starting Thunderbird in Safe Mode
re :Also I do have a anti-virus subscription as well as malware but do not want to identify them. There is no good reason for not stating what you use.
I'm a bit perplexed about your question as it is somewhat different from the additional information. I'll elaborate... Q: When I delete a message it does not appear in trash This means you select and email in eg: Inbox and click on the 'Delete' button or 'Delete' key or you right click on email in list and select 'delete Message' from the drop down options. But the deleted email does not appear in that pop mail account's 'Trash' at all. Q: Do you mean this occurs?
However,if you select the message you want to delete in the message list, then hold down the Shift key while pressing 'Delete', this will immediately and irrevocably delete a message bypassing the Trash folder. Q: Are you holding down 'Shift' at the time of clicking/pressing 'Delete' ?
Additional info says: retain deleted e-mails in Trash until I decide to empty Trash. This implies the emails are going to Trash which is not the same as the question. It implies those emails in the Trash folder seem to get deleted without you specifically right clicking on the 'Trash' folder and selecting 'Empty deleted'. They are being auto deleted at some point.
If emails are going to Trash, check your Account Settings to see if you have it auto set up to delete.
- Right click on mail account in Folder pane and select 'Settings'.
- select 'Server Settings'
- Bottom right under 'Message Storage'
- If 'Empty deleted folder on exit' is selected then uncheck that option.
Otherwise everytime you exit Thunderbird that folder is emptied.
- Select: 'Disc Space'
- select 'Don't delete any messages'
Other options may delete any messages from any folders if they meet the conditions specified.
- click on 'OK'
In Folder Pane:
- Right click on 'Trash' folder and select 'Properties'
- click on 'Retention policy' tab
- select 'Use my account Settings'
- click on OK
As you can see these two issues are entirely different. Can you confirm you have checked the account settings and Trash folder properties as explained above Does the same thing occur in both pop accounts or only one? Which account number has the issue? Can you clarify the issue?
all I removed was the reference to my server the 3 or 4 times I saw pop-server..com:110
And yes - I have 2 e-mail accounts.
That being said, now when I hit delete they are going to Trash. Strange this happened without me doing anything ----- but that is what I was seeking. Thanks for now.

And that is why I stopped being involved. your server settings and not private, secret of anything but something that has to be published on the web so other servers can find your server to deliver mail. But you are coy about full information. Perhaps you have some misconceptions about what is and is not public knowledge. But it makes offering support almost impossible.
Given the state of email ports 110 to get mail and 25 to send mail appear to be completely incorrect, there are some small ISP's out there that are still using ports from more than 20 years ago. But they are very much in the minority and should be getting less. Basically any server configured to receive mail on port 25 from a mail client is inviting major spam issues.
