Years of bookmarks lost during sync to new device; backups are not showing up. Any hope?

I was setting up Firefox on a new MacBook Air, which (long story) I was not able to set up using my old one. I had Firefox on my iPhone with all of my bookmarks and tried to sync it with the laptop version. When I did, all of my bookmarks disappeared. I have followed the guide for restoring from a backup, but there is nothing there. I had been using Firefox on my old MacBook Air for years, so there should be at least something even if not the most current, and they were on my phone. Any hope?
