I am a user of a site DNAGedcom.com which provides a graphical display of spreadsheet type data using an on-line engine. The display can be quite wide and quite long depending on number of data points. A sample of this display is available at the site - go to dnagedcom.com - select 'autosomal tools' tab - select 'Autosomal DNA Segment Analyzer' subtab & click on "sample output" link in text box. The sample is a typical screen for a single dna chromosome. With many matches & all 23 chromosomes displayed, the volume of data generated is quite large. The Chrome browser handles the display well. The IE 11 browser also works well. I have tried Firefox on two separate machines, using Win7 x64 - once data reaches a certain size, the display freezes Firefox with the message at the lower left saying "Transfering data from DNAGedcom.com ..." which never completes. A partial one page of data is all that ever displays & firefox has to be restarted to get back to the browser. I prefer to use Firefox for as my default browser - can you help?

The sample provided on the site works on any system - I just tried the large 23 Chr output on the wife's Win 10 laptop with FF 60.0.2 - same result - a frozen display. A screen shot of the frozen display only shows the first 50 or so lines of output similar to the sample. You will need to run the output using a subscriber login to see the problem. I can send you a temp user/password if you wish to see for yourself - PM me at josephg<at>integrity<dot>com Thanks for the interest!

Tried second time no problem loading the sample data on the screen.

I think both computer should have FF uinstalled and Mozilla folders deleted and reinstalled with the latest FF and test again to see if the problem comes back. It sounds like something else is causing the issue. What A/V or Firewall is installed and what addons were installed?

There were about 90 'window' pages in the down loaded file pictured. When saved from the browser as a HTML file, it runs about 50 Meg. I assume that Firefox has a setting that limits the size of the HTML file captured? Any suggestions will be appreciated!

Please try this : Try Firefox Safe Mode to TEST & see if the problem goes away. Firefox Safe Mode is a troubleshooting mode that temporarily turns off hardware acceleration, resets some settings, and disables add-ons (extensions and themes).

If Firefox is open, you can restart in Firefox Safe Mode from the Help menu:

  • Click the menu button New Fx Menu , click Help Help-29 and select Restart with Add-ons Disabled.

If Firefox is not running, you can start Firefox in Safe Mode as follows:

  • On Windows: Hold the Shift key when you open the Firefox desktop or Start menu shortcut.
  • On Mac: Hold the option key while starting Firefox.
  • On Linux: Quit Firefox, go to your Terminal and run firefox -safe-mode
    (you may need to specify the Firefox installation path e.g. /usr/lib/firefox)

When the Firefox Safe Mode window appears, select "Start in Safe Mode".

Start Firefox in Safe Mode to check if one of the extensions ("3-bar" menu button or Tools -> Add-ons -> Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is is causing the problem.

  • switch to the DEFAULT theme: "3-bar" menu button or Tools -> Add-ons -> Appearance
  • do NOT click the "Refresh Firefox" button on the Safe Mode start window

Site works in safe mode - it spends a lot of time "loading" and if I wait about five minutes & click the 'stop loading' button, it displays the whole output complete. Going back to the original browser setup with "hardware acceleration" disabled, works as it did in safe mode. Having to press the stop loading button seems to be required. When HW Acc is used it hangs the browser & it has to be closed - 'stop loading' does not work. Thanks for all the help from everyone!

Site works in safe mode - it spends a lot of time "loading" and if I wait about five minutes & click the 'stop loading' button, it displays the whole output complete. Going back to the original browser setup with "hardware acceleration" disabled, works as it did in safe mode. Having to press the stop loading button seems to be required. When HW Acc is used it hangs the browser & it has to be closed - 'stop loading' does not work. Thanks for all the help from everyone!

I would think that is more of a work around than a fix to the issue.
