I search multiple etymological sites, several languages and technical pages with internal search, which on previous versions of firefox used to be a Dr Evil add-on (no longer valid for 60.0.1) which added any search-bar by right-click on any search window.

By comparison, The pre-selected choice of available sites is far too cumbersome and very limited, and bookmarks option is over-loaded, easily mis-selected and generally inconvenient.

If Firefox is to remain of use (and this version seems to crash rather often) a right-click "add to search-engine" should be a regular option, not an add-on. Generally 60.01 is disappointing, and seems to need a lot of work just to get back to the functionality of release 58 standard.

But then, one should only criticize one's friends, right? Enemies silently move on to a better product, do they not? Regards, timpo

Hi, interesting searches your doing. I would not know what sites you are at but in some sites in the search bar a little green icon will appear by the magnifying glass and if you hover on that it will let you know that you can add a a search specific site engine to Firefox.

There appears to be a 100 pages to go through for Extensions associated to Search : https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/search/?platform=windows&q=search+engines

u'unavailable = bad You seem to have a large amount of errors in your Video Card Drivers which can cause a wide range of issues in Firefox : featureLog: {u'fallbacks': [], u'features': [{u'status': u'blocked', u'description': u'Compositing', u'log': [{u'status': u'blocked', u'message': u'Acceleration blocked by platform', u'type': u'default'}], u'name': u'HW_COMPOSITING'}, {u'status': u'unavailable', u'description': u'OpenGL Compositing', u'log': [{u'status': u'unavailable', u'message': u'Hardware compositing is disabled', u'type': u'default'}], u'name': u'OPENGL_COMPOSITING'},

Suggest reinstall or see if new drivers.

For crashing this could be the reason. If please do this we can help with that : Please follow the steps below to provide us crash IDs to help us learn more about your crash by sending and including the bp- .

The crash report is several pages of data. We need the report numbers to see the whole report.

  1. Enter about:crashes in the Firefox address bar and press Enter. A Submitted Crash Reports list will appear, similar to the one shown below.
  2. Copy the 5 most recent Report IDs that start with bp- and then go back to your forum question and paste those IDs into the "Post a Reply" box.

Note: If a recent Report ID does not start with bp- click on it to submit the report.

(Please don't take a screenshot of your crashes, just copy and paste the IDs. The below image is just an example of what your Firefox screen should look like.)

Thanks for your input, I have not seen the green icon anywhere. Some of my more favorite sites are: https://es.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Portada https://fr.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikip%C3%A9dia:Accueil_principal https://www.bbc.co.uk/ http://www.rtve.es/ https://www.etymonline.com/ http://etimologias.dechile.net/

As for crashes - I was using an elderly white MacBook with Ubuntu Mate 14.04 Firefox 58 which did have Dr Evil "add to searchbar" plug-in which worked well to add any site on firefox 58.

Finally I pensioned off the 12-year-old MacBook, so crash reports lost. Last week I bought an Asus F514 and added Mate 18.04 (I hate windows). That has Firefox 60.0.1, which seems stable, but for which Dr Evil extension is not valid.

100 pages of searchbar limited additional options chosen by someone else? really? that is more convenient than a right click on any site search-bar?

Anyway, thanks for your reply, and I'll look out for that elusive green icon - Is Dr Evil still in business, does anyone know? regards, timppo

Welcome. Keep these in mind if having ram or excessive CPU usage or crashing : Please go to Options --> General --> Performance and uncheck the box for Use Recommended Settings and try changing the Process count to 2 and can also go up but note more cpu and ram will be used. You will need to reboot after making any changes.

Then go to Options --> Privacy & Security and down to Permissions. Please ensure that the box for Prevent Accessibility Services from accessing your browser is checked.

You can also do this at any time, and should :
