Why do you guys have two features for essentially the same purpose (saving URLs for visiting later), that don't talk to each other?

As far as I can tell, the only purpose of bookmarks is for typing the start of it into the awesome bar... and maybe edge cases like loading in the sidebar.

Aside from that, are there particular scenarios in which I should use Pocket, and others in which I should use bookmarks? How would I know which to use?

Are you thinking about merging the two eventually?

Bookmarks are saved inside Firefox, whereas Pocket data is primarily stored online, with that data displayed in Firefox via the internet connection. If you aren't logged into Pocket or there is an issue with the web server where Pocket data is stored - you don't have access to that data until the fault is corrected. At least that's how I see the comparison.

If I were to use Pocket, I would use it for temporary storage of links; once I would read the link I would delete it from Pocket. Bookmarks [IMO] is for permanent, long term storage of links to interesting information that I might want to use more than once or to refer to periodically.
