I'm on a (work) laptop, Windows 7 SP 1. I use Firefox (64 bit) as my browser (59.0.3). Every now and then both google.com and maps.google.com stop working. They scroll and scroll and never come up. Yet news.google.com will come up. Only way to correct it is to close Firefox altogether, but if I'm working on other sites and can't lose that data, I can't close the broswer.

Anyone know why? And how to correct it?

Test with Google only.

Make sure you are not blocking content.

Start Firefox in Safe Mode {web link} by holding down the <Shift> (Mac=Options) key, and then starting Firefox.

A small dialog should appear. Click Start In Safe Mode (not Refresh). Is the problem still there?

One issue that seems more common lately is Firefox's Tracking Protection feature. When it is blocking content in a page, a shield icon will appear at the left end of the address bar next to the padlock icon. This article has more info on managing this feature: Tracking Protection {web link}
