Won't allow me to change from Yahoo to Google for default browser even after setting it in preference.
I have changed from the default of yahoo to google for my default browser. I even restarted Firefox and my Macbook air but it still won't change. I am very against yahoo and it constantly messes up my research. I am running the new Firefox Quantum 59.0.2.
Please let me know if anyone has been able to fix this problem.
Thank you

Sorry to hear that, I think you'll be able to get rid of that easily. So here is how we do it:
- Mainly, the problem always occurs cause of adware/malware. Firstly, follow this guide - http://mzl.la/1xKt2ap
- Remove anything suspicious to you (maybe you didn't install an extension or a toolbar program) from both browser extension page and your operating system's installed programs directory.
- You can scan your pc with any freeware anti-adware/malware tools if you want to.
Now, if all this fail, try resetting everything to defaults- https://goo.gl/9iH8U1 Before resetting make sure you're set up for sync -https://goo.gl/nsv3Yv otherwise, you'll lose your valuables.

Is it that the default will not change, or the default changes back?
Type about:addons<enter> in the address bar to open your Add-ons Manager. Hot key; (<Control> [Mac=<Command>] <Shift> A)
In the Add-ons Manager, on the left, select Extensions. Remove “ yahoo “ Anything.
Also remove SafeSearch, SearchAssist Incognito, FileConverter Addon, SearchLock, DiscreteSearch, WebSearch, Findwide Search Engine
Now do the same in the computer’s Programs Folder.
Windows: Start > Control Panel > Uninstall Programs. Mac: Open the Applications folder. Linux: Check your user manual.

Sync is not meant as a backup service.
I use an add-on that makes backups of my user profile, Just In Case. Unfortunately, it is not compatible with the current Firefox.
Every now and then, open the profile folder and create a copy of the current profile as is to another location on your hard drive. This way you will have a backup.
If you do this each day, you will not lose much data. This should be done with Firefox Closed.
Note: In case you need to restore from these backups, you may need to overwrite old or corrupted files.

Yahoo and Google in this case are search engines as Firefox is a web browser.
Yahoo is not included as one of the default choices of search engines Firefox can come with anymore as of Firefox 59.0 (and I think 52.7.x esr). You have to actually install the Yahoo search engine if you want to still have it as a option.

Little public information on the real reason(s) however Mozilla and Yahoo have been in a legal dispute for over four months now. https://blog.mozilla.org/blog/2017/12/05/mozilla-files-cross-complaint-against-yahoo-holdings-and-oath/
