Selected themes, including the default, will not persist in FF 57, despite browser and computer restarts. What is the problem?

When FF 57 installed just now the tabs had a black background, which I don't like, as some tabs become hard to read.

I tried changing themes, including the default, but they do not persist.

Any help gratefully received.

Thanks for the reply. I did mean that the theme goes back to black.

I followed the link you gave me for further help but could not find the js file, or even the place where it would be visible if there was one, unless I saw it and there wasn't one...

Anyway, I tried changing the theme with Colourful Tabs disabled and it did survive a browser shutdown, so maybe now in FF 58 the problem went. I have yet to try a computer restart, but I am hopeful it will have no effect.

Much obliged for your help. The only 'protection' software I have on my computer are AVG paid-for, Malwarebytes Free and, for my firewall, Windows Defender. In my browser I have no blocking add-ons.

I can add that with the Colourful Tabs add-on the black goes away. FWIW this add-on has its own problem, which started with Quantum, that only the current tab has a colour...

I had been thinking of disabling/uninstalling this add-on, but then I get the unwanted black tabs.

Any suggestions for being able to change FF tabs from black?

What do you mean by this? Does the setting change back?

Note: Some software, like Advanced SystemCare with Surfing Protection, can protect files in the Firefox profile folder against changes. If you have such software then check the settings or uninstall this software.

I have the same problem. theme will not hold but for brief second. "As is"...very HARD TO READ, not to mention just downright "PALE AND UGLY"!

(I am sorry to be negative, and am trying to adjust to the change) But it is already hard to accept that being a "die-hard FF USER", I feel I was forced into update without my permission (not once, but several times). ALSO, it feels like I'm using the CHROME browser, AND is actually hard to tell the difference except that CHROME browser ALLOWS me to use my dark BLACK THEME. Also, I've compared the numbers of processes used by both browsers (apples to apples) and FF ALWAYS ends up using more than CHROME.

Also, I did SEVERAL “System Restores” back to ver. 56.0.2 and every time I was “AUTO UPDATED”, AGAINST ALL AND EVERY PRECAUTION TO "DO NOT UPDATE", without PERMISSION AND STILL...MOZILLA AUTOMATICALLY UPDATED. Having come from a DOS and AutoCad background (mid-'80's), I thought I had covered removing "auto update" from every corner of my PC, and still Mozilla managed to update my browser from ver. 56.0.2 to ver. 57.0.

For 2 months, December and January, I fought back this update with (3) System Restore's (requiring hours, (days) of complete custom rebuilds of toolbars, etc... each time (for graphic design). And also during which I was forced to use Chrome as my browser (also requiring hours of customizing due to a learning curve and one I didn’t want to learn!). Until finally….

The first of February ...the last "FORCED TAKEOVER” the “BROWSER HIJACKING" by the browsers’ creator’s themselves. When I knew I had covered every possible base to erase “automatic updating”, did I suspect MOZILLA FIREFOX was NOT unlike our GOVERNMENT… In that it would DO. WHAT. IT. WANTED. TO. DO.

SO PLEASE!! For those of us, who do not have the luxury of TIME. TO FIGHT THOSE BATTLES that we believe in...the right TO CHOOSE. PLEASE DON’T FORCE!!!

AND IF YOU MUST FORCE!!! PLEASE...GIVE US SOME FREEDOM WITHIN...to make it “OURS!” Without having to learn another “language”...CSS. AND again refer to time: “CUSTOM”

I won't threaten to "switch" browsers (as if it would make a difference) because again...I AM A FF DIE-HARD...I WILL ADJUST. BUT!! A COMPROMISE for those of us whom FF 57...DOES NOT WORK - (i.e. Microsoft's Windows 10 VS. Windows 7). PLEASE!!! GIVE US THE OPTION!!...THE FREEDOM!!! TO CHOOSE!! whether to UPGRADE OR NOT! AND THANK YOU!! SINCERELY!! FOR ALL THAT YOU DO....TIME AND CONSIDERATION to Making FIREFOX BETTER AND Still listening to everyone's grip's mainly about "what's wrong" vs. "what's right!". BOTTOM LINE...THERE ISN'T ANYTHING THAT CAN COMPETE WITH FIREFOX, SO whatever you do is only an improvement. and with anything new, that takes time which requires patience?? Maybe I am wrong, but seems to me that should be the first thing user's read when looking for support
