What happens when Firefox Support ends on my computer if I don't update my OSX?

My computer is OSX 10.7. I've read that in no time Firefox Support will stop working, and the only options given are update my OSX (I can't, since that would make my computer considerably slower) and using Firefox ESR, but I am not an institution (plus it says that support for this alternative browser ends as of 2017) :( What I'd like to know is, is there any other option rather than both stated above? And if not, what would happen if I continue using Firefox without changing anything? Will I still be able to navigate securely? Use the same net access products?

Thank you very much.

Hi there, You are correct, Firefox 48 is the last version that will run on Max OSX 10.7. You can update to a newer version of Mac (which I HIGHLY suggest, as Mac 10.7 has not received security updates in years, and is not safe to use on the internet). Updating to a new version of Mac will probably bring you some performance improvements, and shouldn't slow your computer down at all. Apple has specific steps to make sure you can update at http://www.apple.com/macos/how-to-upgrade/ (Note, they only offer the update to computers that can run it).

If you cannot update because your computer is not supported, you can either keep using Firefox 48 (not suggested) or use ESR (even though you are not an enterprise) for a few more months of security updates. Eventually there will be no more updates for ESR, and your computer, already insecure because you are using an old version of Mac OSX, will become even more insecure and you should not use it on the internet at all.

Or just avoid this all by updating if possible.
