First, I would use the off-line installer from here" https://www.adobe.com/products/flashplayer/distribution3.html

Make sure that you download the latest Flash Plugin version from here: Select the Windows > Plugin-based browsers - the EXE version.

And for that old WinXP you might want to use the Extended Support Release - Flash Player 18.0.0.366 (Win & Mac) further down that page, as it might be better on WinXP. Select the Windows > Plugin-based browsers - the EXE version, as with the latest version.

Make sure that you close Firefox before launching the installer (an Adobe requirement for Windows) and wait long enough before starting to be sure that Firefox is completely closed.

my version of Firefox is 47.0.1 i have found a version of flash player but it is over 5years old it loaded and said it updated but i still cannot find it on my PC thanks Tony

Did you see my posting? I told you where to get the correct current versions for Firefox 47.0.1. A 5 year old version of Flash will be blocked from activation due to a huge number of vulnerabilities that were fixed subsequent versions of Flash.

i have down loaded this file but i cannot open it i have tried the one for XP but still cannot open it, any ideas to what is wrong, thanks Tony

Close Firefox and double-click the install_flash_player_22_plugin.exe file that you downloaded..

You need to unlock the downloaded file from the properties.
