I have two identical laptops for my granddaughters. I had 32 bit Firefox ver 46 on both with identical addons and settings. I updated both to 64 bit Firefox ver 47.1.

One of the notebooks updated fine with all addons working as they did before.

The other notebook did not function as it should in Firefox. I found that every extension, theme, and plugin had been renamed "disabled" with no indication of the addon name.

I still have the 32 bit version installed as well, it also shows all addons as "disabled" with no identification data.

Windows 8.1 shows both versions installed on both machines, but the problem machine troubleshooting information shows that all of the extensions and plugins are still enabled.

The 64 bit Firefox version only supports the Shockwave Flash plugin and the Silverlight plugin and all other plugins you see in a 32 bit Firefox version are disabled for the 64 bit Firefox version and you won't see them and be able to use them. If you need to use other plugins like Java or media players then you need to stay with 32 bit Firefox releases.

I should have stated that I had read the release information before updating.

As I stated in the original post, there are two 'identical' notebooks involved, same mfg, same model, same OS. They both have the same addons installed and, respectively, the same addon options set on each machine. I did this for my sanity. Everything has been fine for two years.

One notebook is working fine, all previous addons working , the other has the problem queried. By addons I include themes, extensions and plugins.
