I already set browser.sessionstore.restore_on_demand to True (and browser.sessionstore.restore*) and set "show my windows from last time" in general options. When I reopen firefox only the active tab gets reloaded, the other ones are there with their favicons, but blank. I have to click on each of them to activate them which only then reloads them. Previously they automatically reloaded. PS: Please don't tell me about how it "can lag firefox". I know this. I still want to use this function as it were in previous builds of firefox and palemoon. Thank you.

The checkbox was removed and reset because it was causing performance issues with multi-process support. You can still set it back. For instructions, visit the article Allow Firefox to load multiple tabs in the background.

Or you can just do it the easy with this add on:

https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/addon/load-tab-on-select/

Great when you have over 100 tabs.
