I have Windows 10 & Firefox 46. I am not computer savvy. Windows security is telling me I need to tun on Smartscreen. Is this necessary to enable with Firefox? I do access a remote desktop from work that uses Internet Explorer but I do not use it for my personal browser. Thank you kindly for your tips.

Isisombululo esikhethiwe

Hi

This is not really a Firefox question, but I will do my best to help.

SmartScreen is an additional layer of protection in Windows that will warn you if programs attempt to install without your permission. These programs could be malicious and be designed to cause harm to your computer, but could also be programs that you wish to install.

Whilst this should not be relied on as the sole source of protection, you may wish to turn it on and use it alongside Firefox, your anti-malware software and general awareness of risks and threats that may arise.

I hope this helps, but for more specialist information on SmartScreen, you may wish to consult a specialist (or the official) Windows Support forums.

Thank you very kindly.

Since I am a great fan of Firefox for a long time, I wanted Firefox's perspective and not Windows perspective. Thus my post. I wanted to be sure it woudl not conflict with Firefox in any way such as with updating, etc.

I do very much appreciate your very fast reply and time.

Question is resolved. :) Best to you.
