I can download programs using Mozilla fine but none of them will open.

Have followed as many troubleshooting ideas as possible that I can find online and none of them have worked. I don't have the browser.download.managerWhenDone option on about:config. I have restarted, refreshed and reinstalled Mozilla of which none has made a difference. I have tried saving downloaded files into different folders including my desktop, which hasn't worked. Downloads also won't run if downloaded while Mozilla is in safe mode.

I'm running out of ideas, please help!

Did the download complete? What were you downloading and from where? Any error messages?

Start Firefox in Safe Mode {web Link} by holding down the <Shift>
(Mac=Options)
key, and then starting Firefox. A small dialog should appear. Click Start In Safe Mode (not Refresh).

Is the problem still there?

Hello, for the record, none of us has browser.download.managerWhenDone preference, the preference was removed since at least Firefox 31 :-)

thanks

It is possible that security software (anti-virus, firewall) is causing the problem. Try to disable security software temporarily to see if that makes a difference.
