With my Firefox browser open, Pop up tabs will random open (after a period of inactivity) with pages saying that there is a virus on my computer. They will direct my to a number to call or instructions. These are obviously malware generated but I do not know how to get rid of them. I have disabled plug-ins and selected "Pop up adds blocked" in the options menu. I have run virus scan, etc. as well. Uninstalling & Reinstalling FF has also done nothing.

Any ideas?

hi, as this is likely adware/malware-related, please perform all those steps:

  1. refresh firefox (this will keep your bookmarks and passwords)
  2. afterwards go to the firefox menu ≡ > addons > extensions and in case there are still extensions listed there, disable them.
  3. finally run a full scan of your system with different security tools like the free version of malwarebytes and adwcleaner to make sure that adware isn't present in other places of your system as well.
