You can only attach image files and not other file types.

Do you see any content in the logins.json file in the profile folder?

Was this after an upgrade to FF44? Others have reported the same issue.

In the event that the passwords information is lost, you should record all information in a separate text file somewhere else on your hard drive, or written down. You can easily copy and paste if you need to do so. If you are concerned about someone else looking at that file, you can compress it using a password.

FredMcD I think so, I found a folder -firefox.old with a sub folder -default.(#) dated the 12th. Would this be a backup folder prior to the upgrade? Can I restore that folder? I didn't find anything similar in the current programs, program data, or App data folders. I'm using MSOS10 btw. If not the entire folder, is there a index to help identify the files, there are a lot? I also have lost history, bookmarks, add-ons and sync. If it's happening to others as result of the update then likely not hack, intrusion or corrupt so that's good to know. Someone else suggested going to profile folder and checking logins.json file which I've done. It contains what I have re-input and imported since this occurred. maybe I can swap or merge the contents? Thank you very much for your help so far, and I would appreciate any additional information. I had tried to recover through sync, and now am not sure if that resulted in a total loss of sync data or if it was already lost but Sync failed. So I am now exercising caution and patience. Until the problem is fixed, disable sync. This may damage the other computers files.

First; open your file browser to the New profile;

Type about:support in the address bar and press enter.

Under the page logo on the left side you will see Application Basics. Under this find Profile Folder. To it’s right press the button Show Folder. This will open your file browser to the current Firefox profile. Now Close Firefox.

Second, open the file browser to the Old profile.

Warning ! ! Only Copy the files you are told. We will avoid anything that might cause of you problems. Here is the list of files;

cookies: Do not bother. Cookies will be created when you return to the web site. However, you will have to log in everywhere.

extensions(add-ons): it would be better to download them fresh. +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ key3.db and logins.json: These are the Password files.

persdict.dat: custom dictionary – words you added to the dictionary

mimeTypes.rdf: What to do with what type of file.

places.sqlite: History and Bookmarks.

prefs.js: Your settings. Note, this may be contaminated.

cert8.db: Stores all your security certificate settings and any SSL certificates you have imported into Firefox. If removed, the file will be replaced. +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ Copy these files from the old to the new. You will get a message about the files already exist. Choose to over-write for each file.

You can copy files like these to the current Firefox profile folder to recover specific data.

• bookmarks and history: places.sqlite
• bookmark backups: JSON backups in the bookmarkbackups folder
• SQLite files like cookies.sqlite (cookies) and formhistory.sqlite (saved form data)
• logins.json and key3.db (decryption key) for Passwords saved in the Password Manager
• cert8.db and possibly cert_override.txt for (intermediate) certificates stored in the Certificate Manager
• persdict.dat for words you added to the spelling checker dictionary
• permissions.sqlite for Permissions and possibly content-prefs.sqlite for other Site Preferences

FredMcD Hi and Thank You for the prompt reply. I have not copied anything over yet but have disabled sync as instructed. I opened both Profiles in file explorer to facilitate transfer as directed and immediately discovered a problem. There are 2 Logins files: This is what I found

While the files open (in Notepad - to prevent any code running or file format changes) and the cursor indicates content is present--navigate within using arrow keys. There is not any visible characters, symbols, etc. But what added the ".corrupt" file name extension to these files? I am confused by the file name and date inconsistencies, ie. The most recently modified file (#2) is the smaller of the 2, has an added naming convention of "-1" added to the ".json" extension which I do not think is usable but certainly is unusual. To me this indicates a duplicate file name existed when created so the "-1" was added or perhaps if an error occurred while saving or closing as example, the "-1" was added to allow a new file to be created from within it? Perhaps you know what this is resulting from? Either way the older of the files (#1) is larger and had the correct file name & ext prior to the ".corrupt" change. Wouldn't this imply it would have been the most recent 'in use' file? Well anyhow, I didn't proceed on any of the other changes wanting to inform you of this, my speculation notwithstanding, I have no clue as to what this means. But also found the following I thought might be interesting.

I did not find any other files within the old profile that had this ".corrupt" extension addition. And the most recent minidump (crash?) is Nov 2015. There are 17 files named "error-sync-(#).txt" in the weave/logs folder dated from 2/1/2016 to 2/11/2016, sized 6-9 KB, but only on dates(count): 1(1), 3(3), 4(4), 5(1), 6(3), 9(2), 11(3), even though I use my computer and firefox daily -- how come this didn't occur every day? None of these file's time stamps are near either of the 2 logins files last modified time stamps, the 2 on the 9th occurred hours after.

I apologize for the increasing complexity and burdensome nature of this problem and again thank you for your assistance. I am trying to provide as detailed information that may be helpful, but truly I don't know what that may be so please if there is anything you need to know or have in this process -- ask.

While it probably ends here re: logins I'm hoping that the anomalous (is it?) information may provide some additional solution. Sadly I hadn't done any duplication of my passwords, I have multiple mail accounts, some using alias addresses and random user names trying to keep secure protocols, for well over a year. I became complacent as I hadn't had problems. Most critical is the business relevant, client specific data followed by the purchasing/financial data and the tedious process or reconstructing it if necessary. If nothing else, I can still copy the other files over can't I? Should I create copies of the files in the new profile before overwriting them in the transfer as a precaution?

logins.json is a plain text file and should only contain ASCII text in JavaScript object notation format. Firefox can add a corrupt to a file name in case the file is corrupted. I haven't seen this reported with logins.json, but have seen it with places.sqlite-corrupt.

Close Firefox In the problem folder, delete key3 and logins anything. From the good old profile, Copy the key3.db and logins.json files to the problem folder. After, restart Firefox.
