Why have you banned widevine (Hoopla) from being used in Foxfire?

If an extension is corrupt, you can remove and reinstall it.

However, if the message is that the extension cannot be verified, that may indicate that Widevine has not yet submitted it to Mozilla for review and digital signing, which is a new security feature in Firefox 43. You can learn more about this signature requirement in our support article: Add-on signing in Firefox.

If you cannot access Hoopla media without Widevine, and Widevine is not yet available in a signed version, you can make a temporary exception to the signing requirement until an update is available. This is global for all extensions, there's currently no way to make an exception only for this extension.

(1) In a new tab, type or paste about:config in the address bar and press Enter/Return. Click the button promising to be careful.

(2) In the search box above the list, type or paste xpin and pause while the list is filtered

(3) Double-click the xpinstall.signatures.required preference to switch it from true to false -- note that this is for Firefox 43 only

Here's what I see trying to install with the default setting and with the change I mentioned above.

This has been a disgusting experience. You create this "security" feature on software that is universally used by library systems throughout the USE.

You created this problem. You have a horrible solution for it. I don't have the TIME, DESIRE, or life-minutes left to undo your inadequate software.

Besides, I don't need other inexperienced responders telling me that "Their's works." Like it's a defect on my part.

I didn't create this problem. Foxfire did.

I'll go to Crome.

Hi jayjay1291, Mozilla has raised the bar for Firefox extensions. I think everything you need to know is already stated earlier.

If you want to express your opinion on changes in Firefox or suggest future changes, you can use this page:

https://input.mozilla.org/feedback/firefox

I'm not sure why you mentioned libraries, but if librarians feel that their patrons need to use Widevine in Firefox, hopefully they will also submit feedback to Widevine to get the extension signed.

Exactly what was said I am sorry we can't seem to help you understand. To put it further out there, this is a volunteer community we as volunteers only can do so much. There are rules in regards to extensions and so forth to be allowed in the FireFox Add-ons store. All who wish to submit are reviewed. If the publisher of this extension wishes not to add it to the add-ons store then, you won't be able to use it with FireFox. I looked into it and it says it is compatible and so forth if you have problems installing you need to take the issue to them as it is their extension, We have done all we can do to try and help. Further more, one thread at a time for the same issue, I understand your frustration but, again as volunteers we have only so much we can do to help. And since it is the extension isn't signed, it is on the end of Widevine. Yes, I am a newer to the support community, I mainly do tweets, but I find it hard to explain that the FireFox volunteer community has tried to put answers to your needs. And I really appologize we can't help, but in this case you need to speak with Widevine. Thanks, Jeffrey

You are sorry you can't get me to understand??? What a garbage reply. YOU are the one who can't understand. Foxfire changed something that they should have left alone.

For those ignorant ones: Hoopla wants to make borrowing material from a library as convenient as streaming content on the web. That media system uses Widevine. A library. Get it? A place to borrow books, etc. Understand?

For those who do understand, but are making it intentionally difficult: Google created Widevine. Widevine is a media optimizer.

Like I said: Forget about it, jeffy. I'll use Crome. The Google one.

Oh, well. Guess I can't get you to understand. Library = Media = Widevine = Google.

No. Your issue is with an add-on that hasn't been signed, not by Mozilla Firefox but by the add-on's publisher. Below gives the information that is attempting to be said. You can also read here: http://mzl.la/1J7Lcsp "Add-on signing targets only malware and browser hijacking. It does not control or censor the content that you choose to see."

There are rules set in place that are for all add-ons these are for security purposes. Once again let me explain this the best possible. Mozilla, who "Owns" Firefox, Does not own Widevine, Google does, therefore it is Google's Developers of Widevine to verify and submit works under the guidelines. They are not banned they simply have either not completed the process or not submitted to the required standards.

As for going to Chrome it is unfortunate that you are going but, I can't stop you. I have tried multiple times to explain why it is unsigned, and as you describe banned. Here is a link to policies I am refering to, https://developer.mozilla.org/en-US/Add-ons/AMO/Policy/Reviews

Thanks Jeffrey.
