I've disabled every add-on I can see yet there is no difference in the situation. When I try to use Firefox with add-ons enabled, downloads are impossible (won't allow downloads), certain unrelated screens lockup and sometimes the web screens go blank.

Have you tried disabling hardware acceleration? Turning off hardware acceleration
