click on bookmark; get "you have chosen to open"; if I say open with firefox, it opens in a temp file, not the webpage

I have a series of bookmarks to a jigsaw puzzle website. e.g. https://www.uclick.com/puzzles/uj/12/08/13/uj120813.dcr They used to go to the website and launch the puzzle for the specified date using (I think) Adobe Shockwave.

But now when I click on the bookmark, I get a popup saying "You have chosen to open: uj120813.dcr from https://www.uclick.com" and asking "What should Firefox do with this file?" My choices are open with or save. If I choose "open with Firefox", the puzzle, I get the puzzle but not on the webpage; I get a temp file: "file:///D:/Users/IversonS/AppData/Local/Temp/uj120813-1.dcr".

I am not offered the choice to "do this automatically ...", and .dcr is not a valid file type in Windows.

How can I get Firefox to treat bookmarks as addresses of web pages again?

Hi Jane, when I try that first URL, the site is sending a content type of application/octet-stream, which Firefox interprets as a generic download and for that reason, does not assign to a particular handler. (Screen shot attached)

Apparently when you load it from disk, since your hard drive can't send a content-type header, Firefox figures out that it can handle .dcr files with the Shockwave for Director plugin.

I'm not sure there is a simple solution for this problem. Perhaps it's best to save all the puzzles to a more convenient local folder in case this is the first step in taking those old puzzles off that server.

These links still work just fine in IE. But I can't figure a way to save the puzzles. "Save As" is grayed out.

I was thinking at the point you get the Open/Save/Cancel dialog would be a good time to save them somewhere other than the temp folder. After they are already in the temp folder, you could move the files using Windows Explorer.

I'm not sure which site was hosting these puzzles originally. Do they still work when embedded in that site?
