Hi, a lengthy post here and after reading it myself I want to note im not trying to come off aggressive or spam or ungrateful etc if it sounds it, just really need a new idea, but like I said please no redirects to a "solved" case, unless you know it pertains to my situation and I have not tried the included solutions, Ive been troubleshooting this for many weeks myself and have seen them already probably

Let me know what Info will help and Il post anyway thank you.

  • A sample of my latest reports are posted below , if any are unrelated to this issue I apologise.
  • I was convinced I'd fix this problem, I found 10 tabs of solutions at a time and tried each, multiple times at this stage Im now rereading webpages, I cant find any new information so I finally admit defeat and ask online myself since I dont know what I can try at this stage, any help would be a godsend, let me explain, bear with me I want to be thorough of my setup and efforts.
  • Windows 7 Ultimate
  • Firefox 38.05 (as of this moment just tried another reinstall)
  • Windows defender/security , UAC(relevant or not i dont know) all windows stuff off basically
  • Malwarebytes free now uninstalled
  • Bitdefender TS2015
  • No (other/uninstalled and problem persists) antivirus or security/download blocking software
  • Chrome installed-works perfectly without issue.

I can provide more information if needed Im just spilling what comes to me at this moment.

So, my problem is when I try to download a file any file on firefox I crash, I click a download link and instant crash. Or a popup page (with an auto download I assume) and I crash. Now a new issue tonight I crash on playing a youtube video(but this could well be unrelated/plugin issue the downloading is the longstanding issue just wanted to mention it).

So here is what I have tried, possibly missing some, if they are replied I will add them to the list, please dont link me support articles or a big explanation on one solution, just list solutions if I have not mentioned them, in case I tried them, save you wasting your time. Not trying to come off like a demanding jackass here if it seems so, Im just tired and sick of this, and have no use for generic redirects Ive seen them all, Its not a case of he didnt look hard enough and missed that. So my efforts are as follows, forgive me if it describe a term wrong etc Im just writing off the top of my head, like when I say I reset file download prefs, I did it correctly renaming the file concerned.

  • Virus scanned pc/rootkit scan, multple avs
  • feature toggled/fully disabled bitdefender and other av/firewalls
  • Changed download folder location
  • cleared download list
  • renamed/deleted mimes file
  • downloaded for testing a download manager/deleted it
  • cleared cache
  • reset firefox
  • reset changed browser.download values in config
  • turned a config option false, to do with in browser av scans for download
  • Tried new profile
  • installed new firefox with new profile/added old profile backup
  • deleted another file in profile folder I forget reason but iv been sent to profile folder many times.
  • Firefox in safe mode
  • toggled ask for location setting for downloads
  • reset all user modified config settings
  • turned off hardware acceleration
  • updated addons etc

Thats all I can think of right now but there is surely more I can provide an onslaught of crash reports etc please ask for whatever is missing to help me.I have done most things listed many times in random combination and order. Maybe somethings missing, maybe I did one thing before another and put myself back to square one. I really cant get my head around it though. So any input is appreciated, sorry for the essay, at the very least here is a list of solutions to look up for others in similar position. Too technical and lengthy of essay I know but enough is enough the support has not supported me searching myself. If I get a redirect link to http://kb.mozillazine.org/Firefox_crashes Ill implode in on myself and wipe out my whole street in the process. I want to use firefox not firefox featuring chrome the download helper. what step am i missing/problem overlooking?? Thanks in advance

No this is not your fault. The first listed crash is affected by this bug: Bug 858667 - [Win7] crash in mozilla::wmf::MFTEnumEx @ EnumSoftwareMFTs

All of them actually now that I load all of the crash reports.

However yours has to do with downloads and the crash bug is due to audio and video. You could try to disable in the about:config the entry media.windows-media-foundation.enabled

What I did not see if if you disabled the extensions "Nvidia" or if all of your extensions are up to date.
