latestsversion of firefox 38.0.1 disables my norton toolbar

more options

pretty simple, I go to the addons and it curtly says.......Norton Toolbar is incompatible with Firefox 38.0.1. So I have gon3 back to firefox version37.0.2 which I was warned has SERIOUS security problems.

Firefox is starting to sound like Microsoft in its "explanations". It worked before now when I upgrade it is suddenly not compatible.

We all know that the coders made a mistake in the nwest version.....so why not fix it. I am beginning to think I may go back to Internet Explorer ......

So Firefox, when will you make Firefox compatible with the extremely popular norton toolbar, ID Vault etc.

I don't think any settings users proipose will fix this...only MOZILLA can.

Hi Bob, I'm puzzled why everyone else can get the latest Norton toolbar but you cannot. Firefox discovers the toolbar using entries under this registry key:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Mozilla\Firefox\Extensions

(The bolded part is for users with 64-bit versions of Windows)

Do you want to check whether there is some error with the path, maybe pointing to an older installation, instead of to your current Norton installation?

Thank you for the kind words. I am back today and feeling better. The surgery was akin to open heart. Again, thank you......

I have the "right" most current version of the toolbar (which includes the IDsafe. along with MS updates, all Norton updates, the full Monty if you would permit me. I have spent countless hours on the phone with Norton support. Sadly Norton support utilizes foreign based resources, that lose some understanding, and often simple matters escape thier understanding, adding to the mix of coding errors. - everyone blames everyone else and neither Mozilla nor Norton will take ownership to address the problem. I use a paid versioin of Norton 360 which permits administration of the suite to all subscribed nodes. Succinctly it keeps my wifes 2 computers protected and minimizes my efforts for the other nodes I have on my internal network. As I age i have taken on a plan that will permit my very smart soul mate the ability to deal with IT matters when I become incapacitated. The result is a compromise of sorts that means not the best vs the simplest (KISS), The compromise has meant switching to MOZILLA based software for browsing. At this point I still have unresolved the toolbar issue, and the other problems with Firefox not filling out data fields on ebay and other sites, regardless of how loose (security cookies etc0 that it is made. I am only permitting use of IE when attempting to contact the seller, and some fields on financial systems and more., Sadly IE does not have these problems, and I can not get MOZILLA to address the issues and have to wade through community answers which are all accomplished by intelligent well meaning folks. However since they are not sitting with the code on thier systems, it is a fruitless effort. I really wish that MOZILLA would simply provide real support from those with access to code and the ability to make patches. Sadly I think I will have to resort to IE, and make my financial transactions quickly-and cross my fingers as the reason I have tested MOZILLA FIREFOX was to avoid the security holes in IE. If Mozilla would fix the issues, I would use FIREFOX and dump IE as FIREFOX is very fast, very configurable and the footprint is small, and though to make it work I have had to loosen security, if fixed, would be more secure than IE. Alas, everyone's contributions to resolve these problems has been outstanding, yet the problems are still standing. Thank you all, Bob

Just a thought. I know you are trying to make matters simpler and not more complex. If you choose any other method of keeping your financial details other than Identity Safe (Alternative third party software, or Old fashioned hardcopy with pen and paper maybe). Firefox then works well for you and is secure.

I am happy to respond that I resolved nthe problem, though I feel that the problem may have been a corrupted installation of Firefox.

I attempted to install the latest version and goit a message ithat Norton Toolbar was not compatible-and regardless what people hept saying-my toolbar and Norton 360 current most recent etc.

I then reverted to an earlier version of firefox and surpriisingly, the ID vault and toolbar worked, then I upgraded to 38.0.5 and it works.

My only guess was that the firefox install was corrupted somehow.

I still have the ebay problems where when attempting to contact the seller, and entering the captcha, it returns error to correct the input- a vicious circle.

Anyone who has the answer to this, real answer... would be much apporeciated. I also appreciate all the responses from all of you as it opened my eyes. Thank you all

Hello all. I am going to close this and mark as resolved.

I would ask that if any of you have an answer to fix the ebay question, not smarmy responses that stste I am smart and know of these problems, w/o offering a really helpful or resolving answer. Almost all responses have been helpful, but I really don't need the I am smart and and self important person responses. real help would be greatly appreciated to resolve the ebay problem-which still exists after resolving this problem...

here is the problem listed:

Firefox will not support ebay ask seller question & captchca is not accepted/same for paypal within ebay page. Used Firefox recomendations settings wont work

Thank you all for the great help.

Hi Bob, apologies if this sounds smarmy, but after a thread is marked solved, you might not get anyone scrolling to the end of the second page to help with additional questions. I suggest starting a new question with eBay, PayPal and CAPTCHA in the title to get maximum attention to that specific issue.

As always, you will get article suggestions from the form, and you can scroll down past them to continue submitting your question if they do not look helpful.

Norton has said users may have better success if they do liveupdate in Norton before they update Firefox to new major Release.

My problem is that for some unknown reason Firefox has disabled my Norton Toolbar. I lost everything and had to start over so now it is disabled and I can't figure out how to enable it. You mentioned that if it is disabled then enable it. Why not tell me how?

Apparently solved on updating Norton. Please see

Hi bkelly007, could you start a new question please, then we can get your system information and the full story on what you mean about losing everything. This thread is already two pages long and marked solved, so you are not likely to get much response tacking on to the end.

As you know, you can scroll down past the article suggestions if they do not help to continue entering your question:
