It is unusual that the Refresh feature did not solve this problem, because it removes the most common reasons for it.

First, could you confirm that this is not a home page problem: when you launch a new window using Command+n you get your specified home page or pages, and not the unwanted page.

If you get the unwanted page in a new window:

(A) Please double-check your home page setting here:

(B) Investigate your extensions to see whether you find anything unexpected. You can open the Add-ons page using either:

  • Command+Shift+a
  • "3-bar" menu button (or Tools menu) > Add-ons

In the left column, click Extensions, then cast a critical eye on whatever is shown on the right side.

Second, could you check this article and in particular look for a possible optional user.js settings file which Firefox would use to override your previous session preferences at startup: How to fix preferences that won't save. You can rename or delete that file (unless you created it yourself, it was created by some other software on your computer).

Any progress?
