Will Firefox be updated to support Audio PDF (m4a) files as do Chrome, Internet Explorer and Safari already do?

I am trying to use a Livescribe Echo Smartpen. The Livescribe web site has a utility that allows me to drag-n-drop a PDF file (containing audio) into the site for playback. It is an Adobe "thing". Firefox does not support this.

When will Firefox be brought "up to date" and in line with the rest of the browsers?

This activity is supported by Internet Explorer, Chrome. It is almost supported in Safari (with limitations below OS-X 10.8.5 the image content is displayed but no audio is provided. Livescribe shows this as a "known issue" and as yet has not gone to the trouble of fixing it. Likely this is more an Apple thing than a Livescribe thing.)

hello m4a/aac is a format covered by patents, which are not freely licensed so firefox cannot support that directly. on mac os x firefox will make use of your operating system's capabilities to play back such a file format which should already work in current versions of the browser. https://developer.mozilla.org/en-US/docs/Web/HTML/Supported_media_formats#MP4_H.264_%28AAC_or_MP3%29

if you have problems nevertheless it may be helpful if you could file a bug report at bugzilla.mozilla.org and attach a failing sample file to get this issue fixed...
