I typed in.. about:config... promised not to do it again....searched and found broswer.places.smartBookmarks....etc.. reset the value to 0, clicked on the menu and exited --- STILL the recently bookmark option does not appear. I even right clicked on the value and chose reset. Still nothing.

Any suggestions?

Thanks

Maybe it will help speed the search part if you export your bookmarks to an HTML-format file, then open that in Firefox (it will display as a web page). Then you can use find in page (Ctrl+f) to look for Recently. (And you can keep the export file as an extra bookmarks backup.)

This article has the steps to create the file: Export Firefox bookmarks to an HTML file to back up or transfer bookmarks. You can save it to any convenient location, then double-click to launch it in Firefox (assuming Firefox is your default browser).

I'm not sure why that isn't working. Is it possible that the "blue" folder exists but moved into another location? Unfortunately, bookmark search ignores those folders, so finding it would involve a lot of clicking and looking...

If all else fails, you can create new smart bookmark folders. For example, I previously posted steps to create one that would show the 20 most recently added bookmarks: https://support.mozilla.org/questions/934205#answer-358492

In another thread, I created some screen shots for the various steps, although it was for a different folder, so this is only for illustration and not directly applicable: https://support.mozilla.org/questions/1016881#answer-619691

Thanks..... I will look around to see if the folder is missing.

And, failing that..... I will do my best to create new smart bookmark folders .....

Sigh....

Most Visited is in the Bookmarks Toolbar folder. The two other (Recently Bookmarked and Recent Tags) are in the Bookmarks Menu folder.

Name: Recently Bookmarked Location: place:folder=BOOKMARKS_MENU&folder=UNFILED_BOOKMARKS&folder=TOOLBAR&queryType=1&sort=12&maxResults=10&excludeQueries=1

Name: Most Visited Location: place:sort=8&maxResults=10

Name: Recent Tags Location: place:type=6&sort=14&maxResults=10

Thanks to all of you for suggesting solutions - unfortunately (although I am reasonably computer literate) I am not able to totally understand / figure out the solutions. I will print your suggestions and when I have a few hours to spend on it hopefully I can sort it all out.

All is not lost - I can bookmark a page, and immediately find it under the unsorted bookmarks and then place it in the folder I want to put it in. I most folders for various trip planning, etc.

Thanks again.!

Not sure if it will streamline your workflow, but if you are always going to move the bookmarks, one of these methods might be a little faster. Instead of clicking the star icon in the toolbar:

  • press the keyboard shortcut Ctrl+d
  • right-click the page and click the star icon on the upper right of the context menu

Both of those give you the dialog to select your folder immediately.

SOLVED!!!! I took your suggestion, jscher2000 - exporting the bookmarks and located where the recently bookmarked went. I moved it back - but it is 'under' all my other folders. Is there anyway I can reposition it so that it is at the beginning of the list?

THANK YOU!!!!

In the Library dialog (Ctrl+Shift+b), after opening the Bookmarks Menu (either from the left column or the main column), you should be able to drag that blue folder up to the top of the list. Keep an eye on the horizontal line to avoid dropping it into a yellow folder.

But I don't know of a way to get it above the "separator" line where it probably was originally.

Just move the file to the top of the Bookmarks Menu folder and create a new separator just below it if it isn't there.

That worked! Thanks..... I was trying to get it above the separator line. Now it is much higher on the list - not where it was before - but, hey! better than before when I couldn't find it.

Thanks to ALL of you for being patient with me!
