Suddenly I am not able to get to home page ighome. It keeps timing out. When I do a search for it I am told it is unsafe. I have been using it for years!! I did a Firefox refresh and it messed everything up!!

I guess I wasn't clear. I used your link and everything was just fine all my info and I didn't even have to log in. So I went to options and saved it as my home page.

I also did a search for it with Google; then used one of the links that came up. There was no message this time. It just loaded the site. So no problem.

From the names of a couple of your plugins, I think you have a Kaspersky security suite. One of its features is to filter your web traffic for threats. In order to filter secure sites, it must present a "fake" certificate for the site to Firefox, so that it can be "in the middle" and read your secure communications. When you use the Refresh feature, then Firefox no longer is set up to trust the fake certificates.

Some options:

(1) Undo the Refresh (this has many steps, but may be worth it if you had a lot of add-ons that you need to hunt down again). If you find an Old Firefox Data folder on your desktop, see: https://support.mozilla.org/questions/1052279#answer-704281

(2) Copy the old certificates database to your new settings folder to (probably) resolve the security error issue. If you find an Old Firefox Data folder on your desktop, see: https://support.mozilla.org/questions/1052536#answer-705156

(3) Set up Firefox to trust Kaspersky again without using any old data. These are some links I found about 6 months ago:

I will do the #3 set up Firefox to trust Kaspersky. The refresh did save my passwords but not the bookmarks. I did get all of my add-ons. I had made a list of them beforehand. Before I did the refresh I couldn't get the home page, ighome to load. It kept going and going and then got the message it timed out etc. That is when I decided to do a refresh because I had gotten a message earlier in the day that Mozilla was slow and to try a refresh.

Do you think I should undo the refresh anyway? In the profile folder I wasn't sure which was the new one. After trial and error I found the correct one. I still have the "old Profile" and copies of the Profile folder from when I made a new profile.

I tried a search for ighome with Google. I had a link to it saved also so I tried that. Both came back with messages that is was unsafe.

Let's start with bookmarks: A Refresh should not lose your bookmarks, although it may change the user interface so that the menu bar and bookmarks toolbar are hidden and the main toolbar button has changed. If you check the Library dialog using either

  • Ctrl+Shift+b
  • Bookmarks > Show All Bookmarks

and click into the Bookmarks Toolbar and Bookmarks Menu, are your bookmarks there?

If yes: To turn on bars that are not currently displayed, you can use the toolbar list from either:

  • right-click a blank area of the tab bar, or the "+" button on the tab bar
  • "3-bar" menu button > Customize > Show/Hide Toolbars
  • tap the Alt key to activate the classic menu bar temporarily, then View > Toolbars

If no: then we could provide steps to restore a backup from one of the folders in your Old Firefox Data folder.

Regarding igHome, when I load this site on HTTP of course there is no certificate warning:

http://www.ighome.com/

When I load the site on HTTPS I don't get an error page, but there is a lot of "mixed content" that is not loading securely, so I get both a shield icon in the address bar AND the gray exclamation triangle. I'm not sure this site is meant to be used on a secure connection. ???

I clicked on your link and the home page opened with all my saved info. I didn't have to log in.

I could not get my bookmarks to show up though.

Can you attach a screenshot that shows the unsafe message?

  • Use a compressed image type like PNG or JPG to save the screenshot
  • Make sure that you do not exceed the maximum size of 1 MB

Just to clarify, do you mean bookmarks saved on the igHome site, or Firefox bookmarks?

I see this is a different person. I used the link provided by jscher2000 for ighome.

I meant the Firefox bookmarks sorry!

Well this morning I checked Bookmarks and they are there? ?Maybe restarting did it?

I think every thing is solved.
