I do like to know what is the file that triggers when you launch the Mozilla Firefox for the first time to create the folder under AppData either Local or Roaming because i want to change it to a different name since i want to have 2 versions of mozilla in the same computer and the old version i want it to customize for my company web application only. I have open all the files with extension *.JS but none of them have the parameter to create the folder I have also look into every INI file inside mozilla firefox application but no info was found as well. I have use the ORCA MSI editor to reveal the registry keys but I am not sure since many of them leads to the Mozilla folder but none to the Appdata either Roaming or Local. Please let me know if you have some hints or files that i need to edit to modify that name to perhaps MOZ2015 Thank you in advance for your reply

I think I may understand, however the code reference might suggest this is where the magic happens (naming the registries) would it make sense to find another work around?

If we cannot find it here, it is also possible to ask stackoverflow.com or the ESR mailing list.

Hello to all

not exactly what you want but i think you must see the ultimate guide for installing and using multiple channels or versions of Firefox by the the-edmeister : http://forums.mozillazine.org/viewtopic.php?f=23&t=2821799

Thanks for all the responses but perhaps i did not elaborate my question well I am including screen shots from process monitor of www.sysinternals.com so you can see what my question is

Basically on the screen shot there is a registry inside mozilla that make several calls to windows to initiate the writing to the brand new folder MOZILLA under the APPDATA roaming and Local as well

So the question is when the registry makes those calls what file is read under the Mozilla Firefox Program Files to actually create the Name : MOZILLA under those 2 locations (Roaming and Local ) my goal is to Get the Folder rename to some other name like in this case i need it to name KDAORA so in the future if the user install a brand new installation of mozilla it won't conflict with the name

I am attaching some jpg files and the log from the Process monitor so you can have a much better picture of the question

I do apologize for any confusion this may cause and I do appreciate your responses. thank you in advanced

Firefox doesn't use registry keys to store any data apart from the uninstall keys and key used for the default browser. You would have to recompile Firefox if you want to store the profile in a different location.

The screenshot only show the KDAOracle.exe process about querying info about standard folders and nothing about Firefox.

The KDAoracle.exe is the same as firefox .exe but i change it since i am customizing the mozilla to fit my internal in house application that is the reason why i would like to change the name from

Mozilla to ====> KDAORA when it gets create for the first time but i need to know where does the system gets the name MOZILLA to be written or created for the first time under APPData Roaming or Local

in essence there is a file that the system look inside the mozilla firefox program files maybe a dll or extension db i have no idea what is the file that provide with the name each time the mozilla firefox is launched for the FIRST time ONLY

So once mozilla is installed you look under AppData either local or roaming there is no MOZILLA folder there but once you launch mozilla a forlder gets created there (( I want to know where does the system pick the name MOZILLA )) for the screen shot it seems like it looks inside the firefox program files but it is not clear what file gets read to create the folder))

I do like to thank you all for looking into this and giving me all the hints I want but once i get my hands on the file that gets read to provide the name i will modify and remane the name from Mozilla to the name I would like to

Thanks and regards to all

Some installers let the user choose a different directory during the installation. I don't remember if Firefox dose this.

Thank you for the response you are right about that but this directory gets created afterwards once the mozilla is installed reagardless what directory you choose it creates a brand new copy of a folder MOZILA under the AppData Roaming my goal is to find who and how the name gets provided and who are the libraries and files involved when that happen so i can elaborate from that and come up with a solution but until now I am pretty sure that comes from one of the dll that is located in the program files firefox installation.

Thanks very much for your valuable input

I do thank you for you input and appreciate the time taken but I was more inclined in finding how those folders get created for the first time and how more like is either a JS file or a dll library that basically deliver some information and then gets created for the first time after a fresh install of mozilla

I found the Solution to this question:

This is what I found and this will allow 2 versions of Firefox working in the same machine

On the old version that I have that works 100% with my company applications I modify the following file under: steps are 1 install Mozilla 2 do not launch it 3 modify application.ini with (EDIT the application.ini with Notepad ++) https://notepad-plus-plus.org/ c:\Program Files (x86)\Mozilla\application.ini sys will not allow to make the modification within the Program files folder so copy the file outside and made the modification ********************************** See my changes****** App] Vendor=KDAORA <<<<===== This Change it Name=KDAORAPROF <<<==== This change it Version=3.5.2 BuildID=20090729225027 SourceRepository=http://hg.mozilla.org/releases/mozilla-1.9.1 SourceStamp=b8dbd5ab1647 Copyright=Copyright (c) 1998 - 2009 mozilla.org ID={ec8030f7-c21a-464f-9b0e-13a4a9e97384} **************************************************** Make these changes on to the file using the note pad++ and copy back into the program files\Mozilla\ folder ******************************************* now you can launch the Mozilla firefox and it will make the APPDATA\KDAORA NOT=====> MOZILLA

so even if you install Mozilla firefox new one it will work with all the plug ins

I hope this information serves as good value for every one

Thanks Mchahu
