Firefox 34.0, Win 7. I have deinstalled Firefox and installed a fresh copy of FF 34.0. Problem still exists.

I tried the suggested changes in Preferences:Privacy but that only requires me to re-log on to all the sites I normally leave in the logged on state.

What is next?

Well, I have discovered that Track-Me-Not (trackmenot-0.8.13.xpi) is the cause of this issue. I used process of elimination going through all of my add-ons one at a time. And yes, I have removed the old iteration of "Download Status Bar." I have searched for a newer version of Track-Me-Not (trackmenot-0.8.14.xpi, etc) but to no avail.

This seems to be the fix and as such I want to thank you for all your support.

Good Year, Sir.

You did not state what it is you tried to do, so we may tell you to do it again.

From what I have been reading from other posts on this forum, the issue may be caused by the clear history settings. It was suppose to have been fixed in v30.

Type about:preferences#privacy <Enter> in the address bar.

The button next to History, select Use Custom Settings.

At the bottom of the page, turn on Clear History When Firefox Closes. At the far right, press the Settings button. Turn on ONLY Cache and Form And Search History leaving the others off.

This is not a cure but will make it easier if Firefox locks up in Windows. https://support.mozilla.org/questions/997866 {web link}

Thank you for your missive. What I was doing was using the Exit function, or the "Restart Button" add-on. In both cases FF does not exit the Task Manager, though it appears to close from the Desktop view. Sometimes I receive a "Mozilla Crash Report" (MCR) and sometimes I do not. I am unable thus far to duplicate when I receive an "MCR."

I have tried what you suggest, but using the Tools Options, Privacy window. The change makes no difference.

I tried the "Type *about:preferences#privacy* <Enter>" approach but I saw nowhere to save the changes, thus I used the "Tools.." method which did allow saving of the configuration you recommended.

Where do we go from here?

Thank you for your help in this matter,

Major Howland

Can you post your troubleshooting information?

You can check the connection settings.

If you do not need to use a proxy to connect to internet then try to select "No Proxy" if "Use the system proxy settings" or one of the others do not work properly.

See "Firefox connection settings":

Do a malware check with several malware scanning programs on the Windows computer. Please scan with all programs because each program detects different malware. All these programs have free versions.

Make sure that you update each program to get the latest version of their databases before doing a scan.

You can also do a check for a rootkit infection with TDSSKiller.

I have gone through all the steps suggested above but Firefox 34 still hangs up in the Task Manager. I can either use the Kill FF.bat file or simple request that Firefox load and it does so after I receive a request to Close Firefox.

All for now.

Thanks for your help,

Please try this Start Firefox in Safe Mode {web Link} by holding down the <Shift (Mac Options) > key, and then starting Firefox. Is the problem still there?

FredMcD, It worked! I presume this means that one or more of my Add-ons is causing the issue. I have the following installed: -Adblock Plus 2.6.6 -Adblock Plus Pop-up Addon 0.9.2 -Addon List Dumper (restartless) 0.1 -Dictionary Lookup Extension 2.1 -Download Manager (S3) 3.08 -Download Status Bar 12.3.0 -Download Statusbar Fixed 1.2.00 -Element Hiding Helper for Adblock Plus 1.3 -Flagfox 5.0.10 -Forecastfox 2.2.4 -Google Earth Plugin 7.1.2.2041 -Google Update 1.3.25.11 -Java Deployment Toolkit 8.0.250.18 11.25.2.18 (Disabled) -Java(TM) Platform SE 8 U25 11.25.2.18 -Multiple Tab Handler 0.8.2014102201 -Norton Toolbar 2014.7.10.12 (Disabled) -OpenH264 Video Codec provided by Cisco Systems, Inc. 1.1 (Disabled) -Organize Status Bar (Revived) 0.1.0 -Restart Button 0.1.5 -TheFreeDictionary.com Lookup 0.3 -TrackMeNot 0.8.13 -Webmail Ad Blocker 4.27 -X-notifier 3.5.2 -Zombie Keys 2.15 -xclear 1.8

Any idea which is the culpret, assuming it is an Add-on issue?

Thank you,

Lets start with these;

-Addon List Dumper (restartless) 0.1

-Dictionary Lookup Extension 2.1

-Download Status Bar 12.3.0 Are these the same? -Download Statusbar Fixed 1.2.00 or is this a replacement

-Multiple Tab Handler 0.8.2014102201

-Organize Status Bar (Revived) 0.1.0

-X-notifier 3.5.2 -Zombie Keys 2.15 -xclear 1.8

I disabled all that you listed. After reboot, I started FF and then went to Exit. FF dropped out of the Task Manager right-a-way. I tried again, and had the old issue back. I did the start and Exit multiple times but the same issue prevails. You are correct, the "Download Statusbar Fix" is a replacement for "Down Status Bar."

Then the old program should be removed, I think. You will have to check.

If you still have the issue, disable some more add-ons.
