Flash crashes every time I try to view a vid

Kuphostiwe

Started with occasional crashes. Became more frequent to the point of constant. Disabled flash and set to ask me each time, that kept the browser running OK for any non-flash use. Initially, when I would OK one time use to watch vid, that worked. Now any time I activate flash it crashes. When I reload the page, flash immediately crashes again. Has become unusable. Firefox also seems to use an incredible amount of memory. Currently at 555,000k after about 10 minutes, just continues to increase until I have to shut it down and restart browser. I get auto-informed when I need to upgrade flash and always do so. Running Win7. Have sent crash reports now and then.

Looks like you have two different versions of the Flash Plugin installed. Shockwave Flash 16.0 r0 Shockwave Flash 11.4 r402

Get the Flash uninstaller program from Adobe and run it with all web browsers closed. http://helpx.adobe.com/flash-player/kb/uninstall-flash-player-windows.html

Then download the latest version of Flash from here using Firefox. https://www.adobe.com/products/flashplayer/distribution3.html Close Firefox and run the Flash installer program.

Yep, I do.... looks like an update left an old one there. Will try your solution and post the results shortly.

It appears that I successfully uninstalled flash, but... Tried to reinstall twice, and although the installation seemed to work successfully both times, when I try to view a vid I get a message that I do not have flash installed and need to install it. Yes, closed Firefox during both uninstall and reinstall. Think I'll try a computer restart as well and see if that does anything good.

OK, looks like the plug-in was set to never activate, changed that and can now view vids. Will see if it holds or starts the cycle of crashing again. Shockwave for Director still there, but set to never activate. Will report if things seem OK. Thanks very much for your help.

Sooooo.... went through this process twice.... confirmed that Shockwave was indeed deleted. The fix worked for a short period of time, but then the problem returned again, same symptoms. One thing I noticed.... vids went south with Facebook first.... worked if I was on Youtube... but then the whole thing stopped working again.

Flash block {web link} Never be annoyed by a Flash animation again! Blocks Flash so it won't get in your way, but if you want to see it, just click on it

If you have problems with current Shockwave Flash plugin versions then check this:

  • see if there are updates for your graphics drive drivers

https://support.mozilla.org/kb/upgrade-graphics-drivers-use-hardware-acceleration

  • disable protected mode in the Flash plugin (Flash 11.3+ on Windows Vista and later)

  • disable hardware acceleration in the Flash plugin

Hi all- Well.... I don't know what's going on here.... eliminated older flash versions, unchecked hardware acceleration, things worked fine for a couple of days, but now the problem is back. I don't know if hardware acceleration has somehow turned back on, because as soon as I try to watch a vid, the plugin crashes, so can't right click to check. Is there another way to get to that? Or any other ideas? I'm having a similar problem trying to play audio files with Win Media Player, so maybe that's related. Also not getting FB or mail sounds when something new happens. Audio IS on and otherwise working on the computer. Thanks much.

Here's a bunch, since the most recent did not start with bp: When I click on the five most recent (which do not start with bp) I come up with an entire page of info. If so, I can provide the web address of the other 4. Please advise, thanks.

Some of your crash reports weren’t sent to the Mozilla Servers.

In the address bar, type about:crashes<enter>. Note: If any reports do not have BP in front of the numbers, click it and select Submit.

Using your mouse, mark the most resent 7 - 10 crash reports, and copy them. Now go to the reply box below and paste them in.

Fred, thanks for responding. Others made those suggestions, it helped but the problem returned per my later entry. As for submitting reports... I don't see a submit button when I click on a non-bp report.

OK, I've done everything suggested EXCEPT disable protected mode. Looks like that isn't really a good idea, given what I read when I go to the instructions. Or is that somehow diagnostic? Anyway, nothing else has solved the problem....

I'll give it a shot.... but it sounds more indicative than a long-term solution. If it works, perhaps it will provide the needed info for a real fix. And again... thanks all who are trying to help.
