When I display web page that contains videos, I am shown only a grey box. And example of this is the page I get when I select "Help" from the Firefox Menu. I have a screen capture, but I see no way to attach it at this time.

Thank You

It is working again with blocklist enabled. But it was not enough to enable, and restart the device, or clear Cache and Force-stopping. After an hour of waiting for the block list to update, I reset the block timer and pingcount parameters, and that apparently made the blocklist update, and now flash is working again, blocklist enabled! Still, in the android version there should be some sort of message when an app is blocked, instead of just a gray box.

Hi JChapman,

It sounds like you might have an old version of Adobe Flash on your device. If you uninstall Flash, the videos should play.

To uninstall Flash:

  1. Open your device's Settings screen (you might be able to find this by swiping down from the top of the screen, or look for the settings icon on your device's main menu)
  2. Press Apps and then swipe from right to left until you reach the All section
  3. Adobe Flash Player should be near the top of the list. Press it and on the next screen press Uninstall
  4. Restart Firefox and enjoy!

Alternatively, if you'd like to keep using Flash, you can install the latest version.

To install the latest version of flash:

  1. Go to this page on the Adobe website: http://helpx.adobe.com/flash-player/kb/archived-flash-player-versions.html
  2. About three quarters on the way down the page is a section titled Flash Player for Android 4.0 archives
  3. Tap the first link in that list to download Flash 11.1.115.81
  4. Once the download is completed, install Flash by swiping down from the top of your screen to show your notifications. Tap the Download Complete notification to start the installation.
  5. When the installation is finished, quit Firefox and then relaunch it.
  6. Enjoy your newly-working Flash! :D

I hope this helps. Reply to let us know if the problem is fixed!

Not sure if the Flash version on blocklist is for Android Firefox also https://addons.mozilla.org/en-us/firefox/blocked/

Unfortunately there is no updated Flash player from Adobe as they stopped supporting Flash 11.1 for Android (and Playbook back) in Sept 2013 with 11.1.115.81 being the last for Android 4.0

After installing Flash 11.1 (11.1.115.81) videos worked briefly. Then went back to showing a gray box. If this is a flash issue, why would it happen with the Firefox help page:

This issue appears to be directly to this addition to the blocklist:

     December 12, 2014: Flash Player Plugin 14.0 to 15.0.0.242 (click-to-play)

December 12th is when this started happening.

Setting the config parameter "extensions.blocklist.enable" to False allows the videos to play.

Is it possible to be more selective unblocking blocked extensions?

Version 11.1 is not in the range 14.0 to 15.0.0.242. If the Plugin version is not the same the Flash Player version, how do I determine version of the Flash Player plugin I have installed?

Thanks, Jim

I spend DAYS trying to figure out why our 4 android tablets slowly stopped being able to display flash, yet would work for a while if data is removed and App killed: It worked until FF accessed mozilla to update the block list. Of course I also lost all installed apps, , bookmarks, etc. The Blocklist pages claim there should be a message in the tap to play. No such message exists, just the gray box, no text. Since there is no newer flash rev., Mozilla has killed all access to flash sites without notice or warning. Does any one there THINK?

There is some discussion around allowing it to run on "Trusted Sites"

as cbrooney says, there is supposed be a tap to play message.

None of this exists.

No response to the fact that this does not work as described?

There was a bug on the sever side of blocklisting that was returning the Linux block to Firefox for Android. That resulted in behavior a lot like this. For the users affected they reported that the blocklist update we shipped Wednesday resolved the issue. Would you try rebooting your phone?

more options

This did not change the the behavior.

I really don't like the idea of disabling the block list so I can view a video.

Try opening about:config and setting extensions.blocklist.enable to false. You might need to kill Firefox via the application manger OS settings to have the preference take effect.

Setting extensions.blocklist.enable to false is how I have gotten to work. As I said, disabling the block list is not a very good solution to this problem.

I too have it working with blocklist set to enable.

I had to poke at some blocklist parameters to get the list to update. I set the blocklist.interval to 1 and reset both blocklist.pingCountTotal and blocklist.pingCountVersion.

Once it worked, I reset blocklist.interval.

Thanks.

I agree that blocklist management on android needs work.
