In Dailymotion, the thumbnails are blacked out even with the age gate off. I have tried all the fixes found here in the support, but none of them work. It all started with the last update of firefox, so I assume it has something to do with that. Dailymotion works fine in IE and other browsers. Firefox is the only one with the problem. I would like to get it resolved if anyone can help.

hello, are the parental controls enabled for your windows account?

Just cross-referencing a couple of other threads. Users seem to have chased down all the logical internal settings, and the issue might be a style rule the site is using that has an unintended effect in Firefox. However, I haven't created a DailyMotion account myself to test what it might be:

Yes the age gate is off

Parental controls are not enabled on my windows account as I live alone. Again, Dailymotion works fine in IE and Chrome.

You can open the Web Console (Firefox/Tools > Web Developer). Check on the Network tab if any content is blocked and has a file size 0 (zero). Reload the page via F5 or Ctrl+F5 to generate the log.

If images are missing then check that you do not block images from some domains.

  • Tap the Alt key or press F10 to show the Menu Bar

Check the permissions for the domain in the currently selected tab in "Tools > Page Info > Permissions"

Check "Tools > Page Info > Media" for blocked images

  • Select the first image link and use the cursor Down key to scroll through the list.
  • If an image in the list is grayed and "Block Images from..." has a checkmark then remove this checkmark to unblock images from this domain.

Make sure that you do not block (third-party) images, the permissions.default.image pref on the about:config page should be 1.

Make sure that you haven't enabled a High Contrast theme in the Windows/Mac Accessibility settings.

Make sure that you allow pages to choose their own colors.

  • Tools > Options > Content : Fonts & Colors > Colors : [X] "Allow pages to choose their own colors, instead of my selections above"

Note that these settings affect background images.

There are extensions like Adblock Plus (Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Extensions) and security software (firewall, anti-virus) that can block images and other content.

cor-el, none of these things worked. It all started with the new update of firefox. The age restricted thumbnails are the only ones that are affected. I have disabled Adblock and still no change.

when you go to http://request.urih.com/, what's the raw source of your request header shown there? can you copy/paste this into a reply into the forum here (you can leave out the X-real-ip part, since this might be privacy seinsitive and is not needed to assess the problem)? thank you...

Hello Cor-el

I have gone through Tools>Page Info>Media and after scrolling down to images, I found that there is no option to check/uncheck those restricted images, whereas any image link is not grey in colour.

Attaching screen print for your reference.

Regards, Ranjha

Hi Ranjha, based on the description of a 1pixel square image being stretched to 77 pixels wide by 43 pixels tall, that may be an image placed in front of the thumbnail rather than the thumbnail itself. Since I don't see a black dot in the preview area of the dialog, perhaps it's a transparent pixel used to make it hard (useless) to right-click>Copy Image on the thumbnails.

Hi Jscher2000, your statement above is quite technical, which is a little difficult for me to understand, anway I got most of it but my query was that there is no option to check/uncheck the "block images from..." and now I am attaching the actual screen print of the problem. This problem does not occur if I use Chrome or Internet Explorer. But I prefer to use mozila browser only that's why I need to rectify the issue.

I don't think the problem is blocked images. However, I can't run your search from here at the office, if you know what I mean.

Thanks for posting back. For anyone not using Freestyler, the page is offering this custom style rule:

@-moz-document domain("dailymotion.com") {
    img[class*="preview blurred"]{
    filter: none!important;
    -webkit-filter: none;
  }
  .sd_video_previewtwig .blurred{
    -webkit-filter: none;
    -width: 120%;
  }
}

I'm more inclined to believe this is part of an incompatability between newer versions of Firefox and the Dailymotion website, since IE doesn't experience this issue whatsoever.

more options

I've just read an interesting statement from the MozillaZine Forums about this problem:

In the first step of rendering an SVG filter, Firefox covers the image in a black mask. If the filter is badly written and doesn't resolve, then Firefox just dumps the rest of the filter and you are left with the black mask. Folks within Mozilla are split about whether Firefox should follow the letter of the specification or whether they should ignore the specification and give the best user experience. Generally speaking, Firefox is the strictest browser about requiring sites to follow the specifications. This is and has been a part of Mozilla's mission to encourage sites to follow web standards.

Would Mozilla be willing to confirm this is the real reason Dailymotion and similar sites "break" when used with their browser and age verification?!

Hi Hyncharas, there might be some error messages which would prove/disprove that hypothesis, but if not, then a specially instrumented debug version of Firefox might be required.

Well, I don't have a version of Firefox Developer on my rig, though I did try to follow the guidelines on this page...

I got as far Safe Mode with all my plugins turned off, and the problem persists, but I'm not a programmer; without such knowledge of the coding differences between IE and Firefox, I honestly couldn't tell you why your browser blocks some videos being seen and theirs doesn't. Even your internal Debugger dialog doesn't list an error convention.
