After reinstalling thunderbird, all of my previous mail and folders have disappeared. How can I recover them?
I recently had to do a refresh with my Sony Vaio windows 8.1 laptop. A refresh wipes out applications but leaves data files untouched. Reinstalling all of my other applications was successful with all data preserved. However after reinstalling thinderbird, all of my email history has disappeared, and I can not find it on disk. All of my other applications data is preserved, as mentioned.

Microsoft tells you it wipes applications but leaves the data. What they do not tell you it is the data for THEIR applications and the heck with anything else. I am not sure what happened to the standard to back up your data before reloading an operating system but next time you will know.
This is not true in my case. All of my data for non-Microsoft applications has remained untouched and is accessible. It is only Thunderbird data that is missing. And BTW there are many posts similar to my own which leads me to believe that this is either a Thunderbird file structure and design issue or the recovery process is not well documented. Either case would be kind of a surprise me. It would be nice to hear from a Mozilla representative.
