Updates install malware
I am running Windows 8.1, and have FireFox v31.0. Every time I install an update of Firefox I find adware/malware has piggybacked and installed in my computer. The symptoms are popup ads on my desktop and in any browser (not just Firefox).
I always use the update link in the Help menu on the browser, and never click on reminders. I always decline if it asked to install a third party menu bar, and I have none of those installed. I have only 7 add-ons, all are legitimate components, and all are set to "ask to activate."
I am able to remove the adware/malware by finding in the control panel and uninstalling the programs, but this problem is so frustrating that I am ready to find a different browser.
How can I keep this from happening again and again?

hello, could you go to the firefox menu ≡ > help ? > troubleshooting information, copy the contents of that page and paste them here into a reply on the forum? this might give us a clue what is going on...
How are you updating Firefox?
No version of Firefox for any OS whether by update in Firefox or from www.mozilla.org comes with bundled with anything. It does not come with applications, trojans, viruses, malware, adware, toolbars and such. The toolbar could be due to some separate application trying to install its extension like say from a antivirus.
